Don't know about the breeding season, but I've heard probable-hawk noises, not seen any, up here in spring valley. I let my adults out for a bit in the morning. They stay very close to the pen, compost bin and shed, they don't venture out into the rest of the yard, then right back into their safe pen. They must have an idea something's out there. So they're locked up most of the time now.I wouldn't free-range any of my flock if I was you. That hawk is hungry. Some bird's have been hunted or flew to warmer places. Some smaller animals headed for hibernation from this colder weather, so there's not as plentiful food available now like there was. I think that the hawk's will also be starting the breeding season soon?
