Arizona Chickens

I use full and do let them soak over night, if they are real bad change the vinegar and soak longer.

I have 2 feathered footed roos, father (Willy) son ( Mr. Peep), I like your term, I shall use that.

Thanks Tonapah for the vinegar idea, I'll probably do the soak at the end of the season. I like organic methods, when they work!

And yes, we are roos, and we roos stand together - but it's not MY term!

I'm going to the swap and have added new birds to my flock before.

There's a pretty general rule to keep them separated from your birds for a couple of weeks to make sure they're healthy. Then you can bring them together. I mean, I'm pretty sure that MOST of the people that will be going will not intentionally bring sick birds.

You should go to the swap. Remember, anyone taking in your birds would likely do the same segregation.

I am looking for a good home for a 3 1/2 month old partridge cochin roo (large fowl). He is very pretty even though the pictures that I took do not show the fire in his feathering. I raised him from day old from Ideal hatchery. I just don't want to see him go to someone who won't love him. I can't keep roos where I live and that is the ONLY reason I am looking for a home for him. I tried to get a good pic but my camera is really cheap and old. If you want to see him in person please PM me. Just in case your wondering I live in NW Phoenix. Edited with a better pic. Still not the greatest

You know that is very strange that Pratt's had a dog attack because another feedstore in the northwest valley had a dog attack about a week ago that killed I believe 17 birds. I wonder if it is a coincidence or if someone is deliberately doing this.

I saw that on the news. Some folks are just careless with their dogs.

Well, I've reduced my flock now so that I'm to the point I won't be getting many eggs for some months now.

I've put all of the 16 week old pullets in with the few remaining older birds.... I hope they survive. And without the NOISY leghorn roo, things should quiet down a bit.

I gave away another 3 hens and 2 roos last night. That leaves me with 12 chicks... 11 Ameraucanas (9 BBS & 2 W/BW ) and 1 Salmon Fav that are 7 weeks old in the grower pen and then in the big coop I have 16.

1 Blue Ameraucana Roo
1 Blue Ameraucana Hen (9 months old and no eggs yet!)
1 GC Maran roo
1 GC Maran pullet
4 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten pullets
2 CA white Leghorn pullets
1 Speckled Sussex pullet
and then my remaining layers
1 EE hen
2 Black stars (1 hen/1 pullet)
1 Partridge Rock hen
1 RIR hen

So, I'm down to 28 total (from a high in April of 43!) and we figure at least 5 of the 12 chicks are roos that we'll need to rehome so that would put me down to 23 and my kids are complaining now that we won't be getting enough eggs so perhaps we'll head out to Vanessas and get a couple of Cinnamon Queens just to up our egg production this fall.

DW gets back from up north tomorrow afternoon and one section of the yard will be chicken free.. I hope that pleases her.

And then it will start over again in January as I hope to have enough fertile Ameraucana eggs to start hatching out my own eggs.

At least 2 CQ's and perhaps 2 EEs from the 4/27 hatch... I wouldn't be able to come until Friday or Saturday. Would that work?

I'm getting tired, REALLY tired of this insomnia.

Our dog is just outside our bedroom window and she made some noise and woke me up, so I went out to investigate as I have the 6-7 week old Ameraucanas in the grower pen there.

Yeah ever since my son got out of school for summer my whole sleeping schedule is messed up. I feel for you. Whenever you get ready to come out is fine just give me a call to make sure I am home. I always tell people that but the fact of the matter is I am always home LOL. I probably have about 40 of the cinnamons and EEs left so I won't be running out anytime soon I don't think. Either way I will make sure I hold a few of each back for you if someone decides they want to take a bunch.
