Arizona Chickens

Ouch,,,,,,,,,:hit

Permanent markers hold up for a long time with no pain.
BTW, learned that technique from article Blubaby posted about chicken thievery.
It does not seem to bother them any more than a girl getting her ears pierced. Easy and forever.

I suspect that chick has gentic roots that strech back to Indiana. :old :idunno
When chick grows up,,, you may have to have a secret discussion with her and ask.

What? One of the girls might have been cheating on Big Ben? He'll crow about that!

As I was going out to the coop again a bit ago, I got to wondering if that one lighter chick could have Exchequer Leghorn dna mixed in the back breeding somewhere?

There's no telling. The breeder of the adults said that he was upset with a chicken he got from someone else that produces off coloring, so who knows?

The second chick is yellow with a dark saddle, just like the one in that picture of an exchequer Leghorn.

And so far they're the only ones to hatch. The waxed egg started a little pip on the pointed end of the egg, but nothing else yet. It'll be Day 22 this evening, so there may still be hope.

Edited to add: Another egg is peeping and pipped! Let's see how this one is colored.

I think I vaguely remember the breeder saying something about a what I thought was a checkered Leghorn in their background and it adding unwanted color, but I don't remember and I was so new to chickens it didn't make sense to me.

The two that hatched last night are now in the brooder.

They are so cute!!!!!

I bet that you didn't have that little white motion sensor crowing rooster under lock and key. Maybe he got in there to mess with the hen's while Big Ben was sleeping? :lau

That could be it! He introduced that white! And here I thought he was innocently sitting on the shelf.

Flash flood alert here for downtown Prescott, and Williamson Valley. Chino Valley is probably next. We just got a bucket of rain, maybe an inch in the last hour. So far so good no flood here on Aspen Creek!

I guess that you got or will be getting some rain now, then.
