Arizona Chickens

Update: The one with the cracked and waxed shell was also shrink wrapped, and dead. It was a dark chick with a yellow spot. RIP, little chick.

The last egg in the incubator was the one that looked doubtful but possible prior to lockdown.

Sorry that the chick didn't make it, but you do have those other three to spoil now.

I'm wondering about those blondes. Is their coloring now any indication of how they will look later? The ones closest to looking like they'd be all cuckoo later were the one that hatched in May and didn't make it, and the one that didn't make it today, the dark one with the small yellow spot.

But the ones I got are super cute, and the two that are two days old are full of themselves! The third one is still trying to dry off. And chick #1 still thinks it should come and talk to me. :D

We need an update on the Tiger Fire! Springvalley123, are you safe?
yes, there's smoke (not irritating anyone's eyes though), and the firefighters have really been holding the fire at bay. I think it's about 8 miles due south from my place. It's been going north and west so even if it jumps the crown king/cleator road (a fire break) it should miss almost all of spring valley. but it'd have to be several more times active than it's been, to do that in a single day.

so as a mad scientist who's never hatched anything, I almost think you should concentrate on the dorking/leghorn crosses, if the pure barred leghorns have so far not hatched very well. hmm, what a nice cross that'd be!

Now the darned ant's are out there re-building the anthill's again and gathering up food after the rain. I discovered them as I was walking around the yard picking up stuff that last night's storm had blown around. Got to mix up some more of that Permethrin 10 to take care of those ant's today before they discover the food where the chicken's are.
