I have had the digital one and the manual one that you turn like the OLD timers my mom had for timeouts when i was a kid (sorry flashback) and the manual one i still have 4 years later. The digital one croaked about a year into my work load. I use them multiple times a day (always watering something) so if you can find the ones that you just turn the side and let it count down I would suggest it. It sucks when your timer doesn't turn off the water after you go to bed LOL.

If you find any let me know where. I got mine years ago at Lowes but i can now only find the darn digital ones.

You seem sure he's a boy - he must have crowed!? He came from my Blue Ameraucana hen (used to be Mahonri's) and Mahonri's Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster. He will probably be a gorgeous rooster if anyone here wants him - he's a real pretty blue color.

If he has started crowing and you can't find him a home fast enough, The Stock Shop will take him if they have an extra cage and will give you $4 for him -- Pratt's also takes roosters and will give you $5.

He hasn't crowed yet but Mahonri said its a boy with no hesitation so... I assume thats a safe bet

Really wish i could keep him but It would be a bad idea!!

I hope to not have to take him to a store. Would only consider The stock Shop for that. Pratt's I dont think would treat him right. I would almost rather send him to freezer camp than Pratt's, is that wrong lol.

SOO we will see.

They have the manual one at Lowe's too. It was $15. The problem with that one is that you have to be there to turn it on. It'll turn itself off, but not on.
If you are gone all day and want the misters to come on in the afternoon, you need the digital one.

Hi Everyone,

I haven't said much over the weekend but have been keeping up with your comments. I enjoy hearing from all of you!

Laree - Oh so sorry about your babies. How very, very hard. I totally understand hoping those that are ready to pass on do so quickly, not only for their benefit but for ours. Would love to hear more about speckled hens perspective if you are up to sharing.

Sounds very rough.

Heat - So, even thought the temp went up 20 degrees in a week or so and 10 degrees overnight, did it occur to my 70 plus mother and I that we would get heat stroke if we worked on our new coup for a bit. Oh no, that NEVER occured to us, especially my mother who grew up here. Only after our time outdoors on Saturday and our overwhelming exhaustion...I even vomitted some...did we get the report from the newswatcher in the family that the news was warning against working outside due to the sudden increase in heat and our bodies need for some time to adjust. Of course the next day my irrigation came..you guest it, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HOT DAY...with 14 two week olds we had to be outside monitoring things, we just felt compelled to be. So, our sabboth day of rest involved a bit "crisis" work. The good news is by then we new to be careful. Still I spent most of my day feeling just out of it. The other good news is that the babies all survived the "flood". Our supervision may not have been needed, but we were there to make sure the found a roosting spot. I was more worried about the 5 week olds who retired to the coup. It had shade and I opened it up and put water in it, but they were panting and panting. However, all still live on!

I haven't put my mister up yet but plan to do so tonight. A wrench and rubber washers may help with the leaks. Also, I find that if I put the hose on high to load it, then I can turn it down to very, very low. I too plan to use a timer that will turn it on while I am at work. I think I bought one last year at the end of the summer, but never used it. I have to track it down.

That said, the mister I have only uses a half a gallon of water an hour per nozzle. It has two nozzles so that is a gallon an hour. 9 gallons a day isn't too bad if I leave it on all day. I can dump that much out easily spraying things down, etc.

PRESCOTT ARTS FESTIVAL: How do I find out about these things? Sounds like something work considering some time. How fun that the two of you almost connected there!

Happy Monday all! (I am happy to be feeling better from my overheated icky weekend!)

FYI - I went and looked at this http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/for/1773794478.html

It
was made for a display at some kind of art show. It is chicken wire on a frame covered with some kind of water resistant paper that looks like brown grass. Kind of cute though. I decided that I had enough structures for the time being in my back yard farm.

Speckledhen does not beleive in medicating for respiratory illness---at least that is my understanding of her opinions. She almost never chimes in the "what to give them?" threads because her advice is to cull. She says it makes her unpopular.

Logically, I agree 100%.
Genetically, it would be a setback with the Alohas, but would weed out the weak.
Economically.-- $$-- I could deal, but it would suck.

Unfortunately, my heart-squishies are making it hard to practice what I would preach, if I were smarter.

BTW everyone--since I am on flockdown again:

About the Prescott Art thing at Sharlot Hall...it happens every year in the beginning of June and I think that Sharlot hall has a web site....prescott get LOTS of arts and craft and festival all summer long

By the way....

The neighbor's turkey was in my yard again this morning. I thought "WRETCHED" had secured all her birds in a permanent strucure. (You all should see it, it is an assualt on the eyes)

NOW I am worried my birds will make her birds sick---Wretched is already out to report us for anything and everything. I would be devastated if she lost birds because of my sneezers---or worse, my OTHER neighbor, who is sweet as pie, lost birds because she is next door to Wretched.
