Hmm.... I see my roo doing his thing... but he has 15 hens and the other roo does NOTHING.

Do they become less fertile when they molt? They are all coming out of a molt.

Were the two eggs pullet sized or large?

My marans roo is doing a great job and he gets around to all 7 girls.

I know you have adult on set diabetes. The problem is the timing of the meals and the medication. The medicine brings down the sugar level in your blood, but it also can bring it down too far. This is a yo yo effect. You need to figure out when you need to take the medicine relative to your meals. I suspect this varies with the individual's digestive system.

Lay off of the potatoes, rice, beans, corn bread, bread, chips and tortillas. Let the kids eat them. You eat the green vegetables, salads and proteins. Corn and corn products are out.

Don't be afraid to use your test strips. I know they are expensive, but they are cheaper than a funeral. And always keep a few jelly beans or hard candy around in case of an emergency. If the wife or kids notice you acting strange or drifting off into la la land, test your blood. Talking nonsense or acting drunk is a sign something is wrong. Test your blood.

Since I was diagnosed, I don't know that my BS has ever gone below 100.

I gotta tell you, greens, salad and "protiens" get tiring. The only proteins I can have are fish and chicken. It gets boring.
Sometimes I feel like I could kill for a donut or a ding dong.

It's a genetic thing. I have skinny uncles that all have diabetes. weird I know.

I didn't have anything to eat at the reception this evening. Had a piece of cheese and some turkey slices. it gets old.

I know the diet is the pitts. But, I have lost 31 pounds since the first of August. I am wearing pants that I haven't been able the wear in ten years. When I lose another thirty pounds, we are going out for Chinese food.

The blood sugar level can change rapidly with the medications. There are spikes after eating and then valleys when the medicine kicks in.

I get a vitamin shot once a week, and that really helps. I was really leery of this at first, because back in the 1960's the whole neighborhood was going to a diet doctor. Basically, what he was doing was giving people amphetamines, or just plain speed. We all lost weight, but we couldn't sleep or get along with each other. People were fighting over things that really didn't matter.

One day I looked around his office, and it was full of junkies. I pointed it out to my mother, and we both went off of his program. Within weeks, we had both gained back all of the weight we had lost. It was a scary experience.

We changed doctors.

On this diet, I am drinking a protein supplement. I am supposed to be eating just chicken and fish. After the first week I couldn't eat the fish any more. It gagged me. So now, I am eating just the chicken and turkey and lots of green vegetables.

I know what you mean about diabetes being a genetic thing. I only have one niece that is not diabetic. Now we know why all of our aunts and uncles died in their 30's and 40's.

My husband is a detective for Gila River Indian Reservation. Diabetes is so rampant there. You would be amazed by the # of young adults drop dead because of poop management of their disease. It's so sad!

StartMart used to sell starts for $130. They are on the west side. I can't remember where. I believe that included install. Of course if it won't start at all, getting it there is another issue.

The bale of hay in the car sounds like something I would do.

We need to get a truck. When its in our budget, a second vehicle is definitely a must.

I agree with Rufus that diet is key to controlling diabetes. I don't have it but my female ancestors did. I changed my diet a long time ago to avoid the hereditary trap and so far I have.
My step-father also had diabetes and was over-weight. He changed his diet and now controls his diabetes almost exclusively with diet... no medications needed!
He eats a lot, just the right things and his weight is great...he looks great...has much more energy.
The book he used was The Schwarzbein Principle, The Program: Losing Weight the Healthy Way
