She is giving me the maniacal laugh - can you really bath chickens?

LOL!

Well,
I don't know the process, but I do know they bathe Silkies to get them ready for shows. I'll see if I can find the thread a little later with pics.

It was some pretty sad looking chickens.

Production line. Tub faucet on running warm water full strength, drain open, shampoo and towels ready and waiting. Fill tub with birds (5-12). Thoroughly wet them under faucet "shower." Add shampoo and rub over entire body, rewet as needed. Work lather into feathers. Proceed to next bird and repeat until all are well lathered. Rinse under faucet, make sure to move fingers through feathers to make sure they are thoroughly clean, reapply shampoo if needed. Rinse, repeat until all are clean. Rinse in a smaller tube of water and white vinegar. Repeat a second time in a tub of water and glycerin. Sausage wrap in a towel. Unroll and place under heat lamp or hair dryer on low-medium. Trim nails and beak while sausage wrapped. Apply pouron ivermectin while feathers remain damp.

TT! :

I put my silkies in a bathtub of warm water with a little Castile Soap (Dr. Bronners), swooshed them around, drained the water, rinsed them with the detachable shower head, and then used the hairdryer to dry them. They didn't seem to mind.

For the most part, chickens LOVE warm baths.

So how do you bathe them? What kind of soap would be my biggest question.

I"m getting probably getting eggs this week and white is one of the colors. Lots of dirt in the back yard.

I had cornish hens yrs ago and hated to see them dirty! LOL!

To get clean? any shampoo, baby & dog have no-tear formulas. Parrot shampoo leaves a really nice sheen.

To remove stains? Tide or All with bleach alternatives.

FOr mites/lice? Dog/cat flea/tick shampoo. I prefer Sergeant's Gold.

A guy at the feed store said not to get the chicks wet - or they'll die!

I guess that goes away when they get older...
