Arizona Chickens

Nurse Shelly of Gilbert. If things don't work out for your Blue Araucana let me know. I am just getting a large kennel situation set up to divide my banties out from the standards and Big Roo only has 4 standard size ladies...

GOT MY FIRST 'LITTLE' EGG TODAY. LAID ON THE SHELF AND NOT IN THE NEST BOX OF COURSE. CREAM COLORED, LONG OVAL AND MAYBE 1.5" LONG! BREAKIES TOMORROW! DON'T KNOW WHO LAID IT YET, NO ONES TALKIN!

No, I havent tried that, but I will. The vet said if it is internal laying, it might resolve on its own. Ascities would be due a heart problem. How do you feed a "probiotic solution"? And how much cider vinegar in the water? She eats and drinks just like normal. And what does oregano oil do? Thanks in advance!

My hens freak out and head for cover when the police helicopter flies over. The darn thing flies by about ten times a day. They never learn.

What is with that helicopter? I think they must think we're growing something here, they do flybys every night around 10-11pm for probably 20 minutes. My husband thought I was just being paranoid. I actually started putting it on the calender and clocking it. He finally believed me. They make a circle right around our neighborhood, I feel like they're circling my yard!

11 eggs each day for the past three days, my highest numbers so far, out of I think 15 hens, I need to recount. One of two bantys is broody. I don't have anybody who would be considered a commercial layer, the Fayoumis, Hamborgs and Buttercups are supposed to be very seasonal. All the EEs seem to be laying everyday! I think my one EE, who is wheaten and doesn't have a muff, just started laying three days ago, I just started getting a large, light brown egg and I have nobody who should lay brown eggs except the Sept Pullets.
Not bad considering I ran out of feed three days ago and have literally been cleaning the fridge and weeding the yard for something feed everyone until the feed order came in last night!
We had a huge batch of egg salad with homemade mayo for dinner and lunch today using up surplus eggs. Yummy!

Azchicken, I am sorry about your hen. That is not good news.

Nurse shelly, I would take your blue am if it came down to it. However, I have something of my own going on that needs resolve first.

Looks like tomorrow all 4 of my buttercups will need to be put down. They are in the isolation pen and I knew when I threw them in there today they more than likely would not come out alive. I need to recheck everyone else to make sure what I think this is haas not spread. That's all i've got to say about that.

Rufus, you must live fairly close to me. I'm getting tired of that Ghetto bird flying over at night.

Took a trip up to Laree's tonight. Picked up the revolutionmama chicks she hatched out for me. They all came out on day 20.
2 Buff Sussex, 2 Red Sussex, 1 black Sumatra and 1 white crested blue polish. Pretty little things and the broody took to them right away! The red sussex chicks are strikingly beautiful! I hope they are all pullets!

Laree also got 36 of my eggs to put into her bator... She already has some Alohas ready to go.

Meg is your bator working???

I'm going to EAST Mesa for the Ameraucanas tomorrow after work and a Drs appointment. Looks like they may cancel my knee surgery due to some medical complications but I am getting the colonoscopy next Wed.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Time to start the New Year's Day Hatch!

And I do not believe I got the soy free. As a matter of fact, I think I ordered the wrong stuff.

When I saw the list it said: 17% Broiler / chick finisher - the noob thought this was good for either Broilers or the later stages of chicks before they start to lay.

Evidently it is for finishing broiler chicks.

I'm sure it will be OK as I have seen so many posts about all the various & sundry junque people feed thier chickens (mostly from me though

)

Tracy got 1/2 ton (literally) of layer - we'll have to keep an eye on her...

Will keep you posted...

It should be fine. It is basically a grower that will help prevent broilers from growing too rapidly.

Good to hear - thank you!
