Arizona Chickens

Well, my wife went off and did it. She bought two chicks today. I really didn't think she would follow through, but she has. And she caught the "crazy chicken lady" bug already. She picked up the black one and it immediately snuggled in to her hands and fell asleep. So she named it Sleepy. The second, she chose because she "was the shortest and smallest," so she would stay a chick the longest. Or so she thinks. She turned out to be very talkative the entire trip home and my wife was going to call her Loudy. She decided on Sunshine instead. I have no idea what breeds they are yet. I figured if she was willing to follow through with buying them, I'd let her get whatever she wanted to get my foot in the door. Woohoo!

So right now, they are sitting there chirping in a large Rubbermaid clothing container with the heat lamp on. We keep the house at 80*, so I know I need it. The seller thinks they are from the freshly hatched group that came in on Friday, so they are within the first week. It's mounted to a camera tripod, so I can change the height very easily. They seem good so far. I'll watch them tonight each time my daughter decides to get up and feed. She usually sleeps all night, but was up every two hours. I guess another growth spurt is coming.

So the required pictures are below. Sorry for the bad quality, but it's late and dark in the house. More to come in the next few days. Hopefully at least one with my wife holding them. :p

Yippy...congrats. That's took a lot of time to get her to succumb.

Hey, I'm just tossing this out here in case anyone is interested!

I'm incubating 40+ "Aloha" eggs that will be due on Oct. 14th. I was going to sell the babies on Craigslist to help pay for feed costs, but if there is a reliable BYC'er with a safe coop who is interested, I would be happy to GIVE all the chicks in exchange for 2-3 adult hens back when the chicks are about 4+ months old.

Straight run, will be a minimum of 30 live chicks if all goes well, up to 42 babies if it goes great. PM if interested in FREE CHICKS.

You need to have a very safe coop or brooder, and experience raising chicks, and be willing to give back two or three of the best hens so I can add them to my breeding flock.

Thanks!

Never seen that many girls in the nest boxes. I always find the eggs in the top left one every day.

Wilma, my EE, laid her first egg yesterday while I was at work. Caught her today though.
She is 20 weeks old. I am waiting on one more girl to lay.

After additional tests, the found part of the problem through the results of an MRI with contrast. The lobe in the back of the brain is retaining large amounts of water. She didn't remember which lobe, but I think she's referring to the parietal lobe. It has a large affect on sleeping and vise-versa. They currently have no treatment methods for it and said he could remain in this condition for the rest of his life.

He is not on a ventilator or anything. He blew out his IV today, so they are having a bit more difficulties there, too. They were going to work on inserting a feeding tube today, but I haven't heard how that went yet.

I am looking in to the homepathic and naturopathic remedies tonight. I am a firmly believer in those. The two things I need his Mom to stress with the Doctors is that he needs good amounts of natural, unfiltered sunlight and to be grounded to the Earth. Direct contact with the Earth has major healing effects. I'll definitely update as we know more.

As always, prayers are greatly appreciated and needed. He is such a sweet young man!

Demosthine, sorry to read about what happened. For the mom I would recommend the Rescue Bach Flower remedy. Being a Reflexologist myself I would highly recommend working on the boys feet it is very healing and grounding. Research Frankincence essential oil, although very expensive, it goes through the blood/brain barrier and is very healing. It has to be a very high quality essential oil though. PM me if you like to know some companies that are high quality. (don't know if it would be considered advertising if I post it here). Just a few ideas for you.
Praying for his recovery and strength for his mom,
sevenrays
