Arkansas folks speak up.........

Hey , in the feeding and watering section here I found instructions on making fount heaters out of cookie tins with light bulbs built in them , they are easy to make and work really good , even on the plastic waterers. The best part is I bought enough stuff to make several and I built about 10 for less money than 1 cost at the feed store , and you can find everything you need at home depot .

I want to make some, but we have not put a permanent power line out to the barn yet. I'm running 3 heat lamps and my lights off of a heavy duty extension cord, so no more power pulling items until we get the new line buried

I saw this and also I saw another that I'm going to use through this freeze (if we get it). You know those coffee cup warmers? You plug one of those up and set a ceramic bowl on top. Voila, keeps the water from freezing.

Hmm that sucks!!!
I've used the 8qt flat-back buckets all summer and never had a problem. They're uh, closer to 2 gal though so maybe smaller than what you were using.
All the birds just stick their head in, they very rarely even try to perch on the edges so the water stays clean!
I was surprised when the 2 month olds took to 'em without a hitch, as it was the youngsters that I was a bit afraid of fallin in.
I started using them "for" the birds because the birds were drinking out of the "dog's" bucket anyway when they free ranged.

I'm already set up with a couple of heated dog bowls for the coop. My dog gets a horse bucket and my chickens get a dog bowl!

I'm not seeing any pink or white on the radar picture.....

They've changed our forecast from "significant accumulation possible"
to a mere "ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3, snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible"

Probably before it gets here they'll change their mind and just call it rain/flurry mix --- just like the last half a dozen times this year
