Arkansas folks speak up.........

Well, it was a lot of fun and educational too. There weren't as many chickens as last year, but there weren't any big (100 birds entered) breeders to compete against either. Best of show actually went to a junior exhibitor. My little BTW Japanese Banty hen took best of breed (thanks Jerry Carter and Marty Abrahamsen).

Sometimes its good to have a small show like that just to be able to take it easy and talk to people.I know the next two shows that I will be attending will be Fayetteville in November and Shawnee Oklahoma in December. There will be stiff competition at both of these.I know at Fayetteville one man I know is coming from Texas and another from Oklahoma they both have great Old English and of course Barnes Bantams will be at both shows. All of these are showing the same varieties of Old English that I am so now its time to start looking forward to then.I know to compete with that type of birds you have to do all you can to condition your birds to be the best that you can ,because I guarantee they will.

James,

The results from Little Rock Fair Spring Show are posted here: http://www.apa-arkansas.com/2010_Little_Rock_Show_Results.htm

Twisted Feather and Superior Farms did not show up like they did last Fall and since both operations are now defunct maybe it will go back to being the smaller more local show that the long term exhibitors liked better. Of course, if the show stays smaller, I doubt the prize money will stay as good as it was has been. <LOL>

There were over 300 birds entered and 293 actually showed up and were judged. The show results and an article on the show should be in the July Poultry Press.

Hi Ann,It sounds like a good show.I just did'nt have anything ready.I hated to take the birds that I did to Pine Bluff but my breeders were all that I had ready enough to take.I did'nt want to chance it again.I think I will try to hatch off some late birds this year and have something conditioned and ready for Pine Bluff and Little Rock next spring.Well take care,Jamie.

I am looking for 4-5 production Leghorn pullets that hopefully have just started laying within the last couple of months. I prefer the Light Brown Leghorns but White's will do. Must be from an NPIP flock. Will pay $10-$15 each. Email me if you are within an hour or two of Mena, AR and I will come and pick them up. Thanks! Ann Charles

Gosh, I've been so busy I can't keep straight who I've told what. I weint on a road trip Monday and came home with two goats for me and a boston terrier for my daughter who accompanied me. I left home at 7am and got home at 11pm. The goats are two of triplets. They are nubian x saanen, 4 months old. At the sheridan swap I ended up taking home some SQ RIR and three buff ducks. I have a new hatch of button quail in the brooder. They are so cute I couldn't believe how small they are. Got a lot coming out of the incubator in the next couple of weeks. How's everybody out there doin?
