Arrrrrgh, LG incubator!! i hate this thing!

I honestly can't wait to get my second Hovabator and to put my LG on Freecycle. I had little trouble with my LG once I got it stabilized, but stabilizing it drove me just about nuts! I have the LG set up in a different location than from where it was the last time, with less light coming in a window and more of a stable room temp, but I still can't get a high enough humidity to satisfy me.

Threads like this are why I just got a Brinsea Octagon Eco as my first 'bator. Was posted on here yesterday for $100 shipped brand new from Brinsea. The money went to charity. Soooo cool!!!

Good point, save the money and get the better, 50.00+ for a lg will hatch chicks. But so many better out there just for a few dollar more

I had the LG for a week, then bought the Hova Bator 1588 with express shipping, LOL, and all my troubles just melted away.....

I love my LGs ship it to me I'll take it. Set the high temp at 100, at the warmest part of the day and forget about it. It will drop in the evening about 2 degrees but the temps do not stay stable under a hen. Keep away from windows and drafts.

If the bator is not full fill bator with anything to hold and stabilize temp like water bottles cups of sand, bricks or rocks. Some people cover their LGs of a night with a small comforter, I have not done that but it would help with heat loss, just double check temps first few times.

The only real complaint I have with the LG is when the chicks hatch and become active they peck at the heating element, always scared they will get burned. So I use a DIY hatcher for hatching. I am probably a worry wart on that issue as I have heard of no one where there chicks got burned.

Also it you measured the temp at the top of the egg and it reached 104 it was only 102. I measure mine with a easter egg filled with sand and the probe in the egg.

You know I got my LG stable and added a fan and it did okay once I figured it out. The reason I traded it away was the low ceiling height and exposed burner. I do not want to even try to count the number of times my hands got burnt on that dang thing. I have kind of shaky hands, LG was NOT for me.

All my other bators and hatchers right now are homemade, not a one of them small enough for me to get singed in. I hated that with a passion. Hated that the chicks could reach near the top. The trade for five delaware chicks made me happy.

Learning to build my own bators -- priceless.

Saving for a Dickey...

They are cheap, I love them. I figure if I can get 90% or better hatch rates with hand turning, they are not so bad after all !

it won't go anywhere just yet. i'm a tinkerer. i'll tear it apart and make it the way it should have been made. or i'll ruin it trying. my motto is "if it ain't broke, fix it until it is"

I will pay for shipping to anyone who wants to get rid of thiers. I couldn't afford to buy one so I made one. Not the greatest but better than none. I have been checking ebay but by the time you pay for shipping they are more than in the stores. If anyone really wants to just get rid of them let me know. I have ten grandchildren that would love to watch eggs hatch.
