Attention west tennessee

Hope everybody had a Great weekend! Keep your fingers crossed for me, A friend of mine is supposed to come by tommorrow and help me build me a chicken house and shed. Hopefully we'll have enough material and enough help to get most of it done in one day. Wonder if I could get extreme makeover home edition to build me a house with a chicken house on the side?

Hopefull next year in the spring I will be able to buy and trade eggs and get some new breeds. Most of the chickens I have now are little mixed banties and of course My three cochins. These are my setting "subflock" . At least that was my plan. What they're plans are remain to be seen. I really wish I could get a hold of some little silkie or silkie mix hens. I heard they were great setters and excellent mothers. Does anybody have silkies ? --Wayne

It seems that a LOT of folks on here have silkies, and it is enough to make everyone ELSE want silkies! Apparently they're full of personality, great setters and great mothers (as you previously heard), and I've seen some absolutely phenomenally gorgeous pix of silkies! I don't have any, but those pix are certainly enough to be pulling my strings!

i have15 frizzles. Offspring of my white Silkie roo and white cochin hen. they look just like silkies with a wild hair do. i'm getting ready to start splash frizzles soon by using a black cochin instead of the white. The white frizzles are going up for sale.

I have a white and black bush goat (female)for sale also $45 if there is anyone interested.

wow cwc362 - that sounds great...hope you got a lot done on your shed today! You'll have to post pics!
I may get a few silkies next year, because my mom is wanting some...and Perkins, my roo is a standard size chicken

timbo - the frizzles sound like they are real cute

does anybody else buy grit? I need to get some and I am just wondering does anybody know who is cheapest? Tractor Supply has it for the cheapest I found...

Rebecca- Didn't get to work on the shed today but hopefully this week maybe. My buddy and I both had to juggle our plans. He had to help his brother with a floor and I had to go meet the guy who is buying my house in Humboldt. And that reminds me. Your picture on the website really looks familiar but I lived in Humboldt for 7+ years so maybe I saw you at Wal-mart or something or the little store there in Gibson. Me and the kids used to stop there a lot. I am originally from around Medina. My grandmother still lives down there on the other side of Medina. Timbo --Do you always get frizzles when you cross cochins and silkies? I haven't been buying grit I just been picking up small rocks and pea gravel when i go somewhere and see some. I also saw some at the tsc down here but didn't pay attention to what the price was. Rebecca if you ever saw a little beat up Toyota truck pulling a trailer with a big lawnmower and the cab packed full of kids,--That was us!!

How's everybody Today? Hope everybody's good. No progress on my chicken shed today. Raining ,(which my greens need desparately) Plus I have a back tooth trying to abcess. Whoopee Whoopee!! Pretty much been in the house all day. The kids went and tended to the chickens. Taking antibiotics hope it gets it under control until I can afford to go to the dentist. If not Does any body got any really good pliers I can borrow?

Any way enough of my complaints for today------Wayne --Hopefully future west Tn chicken club member in Huntingdon.

my my goodness. Pliers is the best way to get rid of a abcess. Antibiotics just prolong the problem. I wish u the very best and hope u get to feelin better. it's a little to wet to work on shed today.

No chickens yet.
I'm a little worried that my cousin-in-law(?)'s cat might get to the chickens if I get any.
Any ideas?
We do have a wait a bit because of money (I need to find a job), but kind of want to be self sustaining, so maybe getting chickens would provide some food, as well as growing some veggies (anyone with a garden that can give me advice about growing here?).
I also would like to know if your/which kind of chicken would be the most self-sustaining (foraging wise, good for both meat and eggs)
I would also like to know what kind of materials I need to build a pen/tractor/etc.
I probably should ask some of these questions in a different sections, but would like local help, I guess, since there are others who live in different regions and it would be a different situation (weather, materials available, animal dangers, etc).
Thanks in advance!

Also: I'm planning on getting Australorps and maybe buff orpingtons from catcobb, but I'm also looking for dark skinned chickens (forgot the breed..silkies?), welsummers, dorkings, and maybe marans. Please let me know where I can find them if possible! Thanks!
