August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Second that. I have two developing with saddle air cells and been assured it’ll Be ok with possible need for assistance. I only have 5 eggs left so I’m really hoping only for 3 any more will be a bonus!

I've actually had severely saddled air cells before, they were local eggs but I have no idea what happened to them before I got them, lol. Anyway, a couple appeared to be pipped at the wrong end of the egg but I realized that after lockdown the saddle had receeded so much that the chicks were just pipping where the air cell ended like a typical hatch but looked upside-down from pip location. They zipped sort of diagonally but hatched without assistance, so there is hope for your saddled eggs for sure!

Hatch being on Monday its Brooder cleaning weekend. I have 3 different brooders first one is indoors.. day old to 3 weeks, outdoors on Deck (large) 3 weeks to 6 weeks, and a 3rd one in the Juvenile Bird coop 6 weeks to integration age which has so many variables that it can be 3 days and Poof integrated or it can take 2 weeks. It depends on the how crowded the coops is and how crowded the integration brooder is. every 3 weeks I clean the first brooder. The 2nd brooder can go 2 cycles (every 6 weeks) to 4 cycles (every 12 weeks) depending on how many birds and what type of birds were in there. The 3rd brooder depends on how many, what type and how long it was used. This weekend all 3 need to be cleaned and even a 4th brooder in the house because I split up last hatch. Dry feed and poo dust makes me sneeze and have a runny nose. Yet I enjoy doing this. Call me weird but anytime I add to a compost pile I am happy.
Time to head back out in the heat and get to doing my dirty job. Chickens should start pipping tonight or tomorrow morning for the Monday Hatch.

Chicks hatching in a few days! We are on day 18! They are hatching from a broody hen, and we can't wait!

Good luck!!!! I’m on my first broody hatch, too! 1 week or so in.

Good luck everyone seems like a lot of hatches this weekend and week!!!

My sick hen is improving I believe, but is now molting. I’m wondering if the whole thing is related to molting and stress anyway.... she has always been “off” since being carried away by the hawk, so who knows. I am seeing her eat though, which HAS to be a good sign. She just sleeps A LOT though...

I'm sorry your sick hen is still struggling. Hopefully she'll perk up soon. :hugs

I have yet ANOTHER broody hen that decided to start sitting a couple days ago. I was in such disbelief that I didn't accept it until this morning when I let all the hens out and she remained in the nest box. I'm losing count but I think that's the 7th time this year I've had a hen go broody and it's not like I'm breaking their broodiness! I'm giving them eggs or chicks to raise every single time! :th

Lol! Queen of Broodies.

I think she is also bored. So I am BYCing with her. What have I become?

But when she is out of the crate she eats.

Finally got the large brooder cleaned, soon I move out the 3 week old chicks and clean the inside brooder. Enjoying an AC break and when I stop sweating I return to work. Still no pips. Its early so now worries on that. Eggs for my September hatch are already in the egg turner. Dark Cornish (eBay picked up in person) Blue/Spash/Black Ameracuna (craigslist) Golden Phoenix (got from the eBay guy while I was there, sorry eBay but once I meet them in person I don't have to go through you!) My lone Golden Phoenix female died so I figured I would snag some cheap hatching eggs in person. Ayam Cemani, and Seramas. I have more than 42 so I will do the stack em on the side trick and weed out the infertile ones and the quitters on day 10. I may need to buy a new brooder plate because it only holds 20 chicks and its very possible I end up with 40 successful eggs hatching.
