August Hatch-A-Long

Yes, that's what those are called, and some can be worse than other's, see?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...e-to-be-for-porous-eggs.957080/#post-14884646 I found this one where one of the humidity experts from BYCs past talked about how she did nothing special for porous eggs. I was getting nervous because I have 5 of these porous eggs in a large hatch and they may be my highest priority eggs and the breed I have the fewest eggs for

So I am 3 days from lockdown. And since these are dark eggs that I have had difficulty seeing into them with the candler, I went out and bought a 400lm very bright led flashlight. So I recandled them. And to tell the truth I expected them to be a lot different than when I candled at day 8, they look the same. I am positive the questionable one is a dud, clear throughout. the others though, there is so much clear and I can't see any veinging or large dark areas with 6 days left i expected them to be almost all opaque and they are not :(
For what it’s worth I have rarely if ever seen veining in marans eggs. And at day 15, some clear doesn’t bother me totally. Normally you’d see the veins quickly covering the bottom of the shell, but since veins are so hard to see in marans, I see them as clear.

However.... I have always been able to see clear movement at day 15.

I have hatched some severely porous eggs and I didn't have any trouble hatching them. I would just peek at them a couple extra times to make sure I didn't need to adjust humidity or I would automatically adjust my typical 45-50% humidity to 50-53% and not let it drop as low as usual. I'm actually doing that with my shipped eggs this time to see what happens.

@wolfwalker I have a 1300 lumen little LED flashlight that I candle with and some eggs are still difficult to candle. I would take out the one you know is clear and do a sniff test on the others to make sure none of them are stinky but otherwise wait a bit longer. I don't have any day 15 images of candling to share with you but I do have a day 12 of a Marans egg and a day 18 of BLRW. I hope that helps!

Yeah, Mine are not even close to those pics. I removed the clear egg. and have decided to sacrifice one of the eggs to just see what is going on. Since these are a mix I'm not to attached to them.

Just cracked them open. the one which was completely clear, yolk intact and looked like any egg I collect for eating. The one with the dark side, never any veins the yolk was liquified.

No movement in any of the eggs. if nothing changes by lockdown, the whole batch will be removed and marked as un-fertile.

And I picked up these eggs couple of hours away and brought them back, so can't blame it on shipping.

I'm sorry! That's so disappointing!

I'm sorry that happened to you. I don't think that I would go over there to get any more hatching egg's from them.
