Keeping them in a separated area like what you're doing now should be sufficient. I can share pictures of my separated area when I get home tonight. It's basically a side by side in the main run. So they can still see each other until they're big enough.

Yes, just struggling with how to do this. I’ve still got a long way to go with the New Guinea coop, so I had intended to put older keets in the 4x8’ chicken tractor, with no heat. If I figure out a way to enclose the young keets, then I’d still need heat... Maybe I can rig up an extension cord?

Thank you, it happens but 4 outta 5 is not a bad one for this cheap little incubator
well 4th one is out safely and resting in incubator along with the white,#3, is now doing great, cheeping strong and getting her legs under her, so final results are 4 chicks one dead in shell. now can get the bigg incubator out and ready to set for September, son says if that isn't last hatch for the year I can say good by to my incubators lol

That's what I did, I just ran a really long extension cord, lol, it wasn't exactly attractive but it got the job done and is temporary! I'm not sure if these pictures will help you or not but this is my separated area in the run. I usually leave the door open but I close it when I need to use it as an outdoor brooder, broody pen, introduction pen, etc. I found using the Rubbermaid container has been the easiest and is also inexpensive. Initially, I had the hole cut smaller so that the hens couldn't get inside once I started integrating but I have since used it for broodies so it's a bigger hole now but still works for chicks. I cut a small hole in the back of the Rubbermaid to run the brooder heat plate cord out and it makes for a nice draft free warm side space for the chicks. It's all really simple but I find simple works well for me. lol

The one is still sleepy as just hatched a while ago, with help but drinking, never setting new layer eggs again, you can tell the Rhode Iland white , she is so small coming from a small egg but here they all are making mess outta the feed so going to run get a different one for feed lol

once she got her legs under she sure is a little spitfire, she's making sure the other 2 that hatched aren't picking on the one still not up and around much lol, she's gonna be one sweet chicken when she grows up

So glad you’ve got some healthy babies, @slordaz!!!

Mama and babies got their first visitors today! Moms still a nervous to come out of the pen. But she lets others in.

She also lets me do whatever I want with the chicks.

I’m sorry that they didn’t hatch! Do you have an external thermometer that you can use to work the kinks out of your incubator before you get more eggs?

I am sure it was the thermometer being it was inside the incubator and my guess is it got to moist with humidity. Some of the numbers on the high low tracking was messed up. Bought a new one with a probe
