Thanks!!! I have a wonderful assortment of colors as well. 2)Columbian,1)Buff Columbian, 1)Millie Fleur/Calico, 1)Blue Millie Fleur/Calico, 1)Birchen, 1)Blue Molted, and 1)Silver Laced. I ordered my eggs from Lucky Pickens Farms....she packaged them very well, fat end up and marked the color and date laid on each egg. I will definitely order from them again!!!!

I gave all of my baby chicks (2-8 days old) fermented feed for the first time today. At first they wanted nothing to do with it, but I left it in their brooders and they devoured it! My chickens all eat fermented feed so I want the chicks to eat it too.

I said brooderS because I separated the chicks into two sections because the 8 day old regular chicks were running around like kindergarten kids knocking over the toddlers (4 day old Silkies and my 2 day old TINY homegrown chick). My homegrown is the size of my smallest silkie chick,I don't know why she is so small.

Everyone is doing very well except one silkie that may have neurological issues...she attacks her own foot. She still eats, drinks, is growing, but in between that she frantically bites her foot...mostly the right one. I have examined her, there is nothing wrong with her foot or leg. Will be keeping an eye on her.:/

Keep me posted on your silkie. My blue splash Marans roo has one. First it was balance, rehabilitated him with vitamins & physical therapy & the leg problems went away. Then about a week after he developed cataracts in his left eye. Did some research I think I found a link on Poultrypedia about vitamin deficiencies causing cysts in the brain. Which is probably why his balance was "off" & why he only has cataracts in one eye. His peck is off aim too. But he is still able to be a roo & mate with the hens. Sometimes he does his man dance at bushes, fences, or in the middle if the yard lol & bump into things but he's happy & healthy these chicks I hatched are his. I wanted to see if it was genetics or vitamins. Apparently, from what I've read on Neuro disorders in chickens; the vitamin deficiency is in the hen that laid the egg. Not saying someone wasn't taking care of their hens, but it could be a lower ranking hen in the pecking order

what did you see in the eggs...how many days have they been in the incubator?

Put them in on the 5th so it was day 7 I will check them in another couple days see if I see any difference

Should I be able to hear any without opening the lid? If yes, then no, but it's hard to hear over the chirping of my 2 little ones in the corner. I'll try to pay better attention. Either way, no pips and I don't see any rocking. They're making me wait. Question for you... I have an assortment of 2 diff size eggs, one hen lays, what I say "normal" eggs bc they looked like the ones I just got shipped. But the other lays smaller more round eggs. Those show movement under candling but I didn't know how it would impact their delivery being that the air cell is smaller and will those babies be smaller?

Even after the major problems with the heater I pulled out only 30 eggs.(most were infertile which is kinda weird as the 48 RIR from a neighbor lost about 12 from infertile even though he has 3 roos on 40 hens) Theres still about another 12 or so that I'm not sure about but left them in anyway,plus even the ones that seem viable now might not be. BTW If an egg doesn't weep or smell will it still explode? Just don't want a big stinky mess.

Love Dobies, we had three growing up and they are great dogs. Velcro doesn't even being to describe them LOL!

Excited to see the chocolate Silkies, I haven't heard of that color before. Will have to go Google

I think I'm in for Sept with some banties. Not sure what yet, and I can't get them in the incubator until after the 25th. I'm gone that weekend and I hate to leave the SO with another task (no egg turner in the 'bator). Or maybe some 'scovy ducks, I miss mine.

Got home last night to one broody's nest box (it's a square plastic trash can that she tipped over and started using) turned the wrong way. I have a feeling one of the %$&^%* goats reached thru the gate and turned it. Two of the eggs were on the floor, and cool-ish. She was still sitting on the others. Rearranged everything, and moved her out of goat reach, but I don't know what to expect from those eggs now

I didn't candle them, figured they had a rough enough day, maybe I will tonight. They're supposed to hatch the 17th.

Anyone want a pair of goats?
