August Hatch-A-Long!

Take a deep breath. First of all the darker one on the left looks perfectly normal. That will slowly dry and detach. The other still has yolk to absorb. Wrap its bottom in a clean cloth/paper towel place it upright in one of those egg holders. You need to get it in a position to where it cannot move or get out of the holder. It will close up the area around the un absorbed sac. You might have to keep it separated from the others till it is completely closed and healed as they will try and peck at it. All is not lost. I have seen babies with yolk sacs bigger, and survived and were fine. The one on the right, since it wont get all the yolk will need to eat and drink sooner than the others.
We were typing at the same time. Thank you! I have done that to both of them. The other one has just a little left to absorb too I think. They are fighters though so that is good. they are chirping up a storm in there. So I am hopeful.

Once it is absorbed you can put a little antibacterial ointment on it. Help it heal up faster. Expect it to have a bare booty.....lol

So from 12 eggs that went into lockdown I ended up with hopefully 5 chicks. 2 were from my flock and 3 from the 14 shipped eggs. And all were malpositioned! What the heck is causing my own chicks to be malpositioned?? Those two went straight from the hens nest to the bator :(

i'd like to join this hatch along...put 6 button quail eggs in the bator onthe 3rd and they should hatch on the 20th or 21st if their fertile

these are the first egsgs from my pair so i'm really excited to see if the eggs hatch

Here's another round of name that chick. First one I think is a silkie but is it a mix? Feathered feet and 5 toes. Second one feathered feet 4 toes, bottom of his back is darkish. Last 2 feathered feet 4 toes eye area half black half yellow both eyes.

I don't know but they are adorable!

I have a question for you all. I had to take the chick that hatched out of the incubator because he was pecking at Pip's membrane. She's not ready and it was causing bleeding. He was almost completely fuzzy so into the brooder he went with a stuffed animal I had laying around. Now here's my question. He has a small swollen lump on his naval. What is this and should I be worried?

He has extreme active periods followed by passing out wherever he be for a bit then he's up and at it again so I assume he's healthy but that little lump has me worried.

I just think yours weren't quite ready to hatch...not necessarily malposition....how are the little ones doing?

shipped eggs are a crap shoot...I am lucky to get half a hatch from them and they are always weaker right after they hatch than my home grown...I keep buying them because its hard to find locally some of the beautiful breeds that I want to add to my flock and then breed for myself...
