August Hatch-A-Long

My next egg is hatching..this one had the biggest air cell and I was sure I saw a beak in it yesterday but come to find out it had pipped the bottom of the egg. It probably happened last night and my son and I were listening to it cheep but I didn't turn it over. He still has some veins to absorb today and should be out by tonight. These are strong little chicks! My babe with splayed legs is all better too.

I was near the dollar store today so I got some little plastic baskets that I am going to use to separate my eggs in the bator for hatching... They are labeled by rooster and I want to know who is who! I think I still have eggs from 6 different roosters cooking. Down to 15, I hope they all hatch

Humidity is at 23%.

I wonder (half kidding) if different areas have different kinds of humidity... like saturated or non-saturated... I must have saturated here, because just a little seems to go a long way!
Aww...hope your baby makes it! so glad your little splayed leg is doing better! I had one chick I had to help with splayed legs and is actually how I ended up joining this forum

Such great help here!!!

I am in Southern Calif...dry as a bone and I have the hardest time keeping any humidity in my bators....especially at lockdown! Water evaporates so fast!!!!

Thanks! The chicks are all good... it has been weird, the last four were staggered by two days each... and there are two more to hatch! All four were too big to hatch and malpositioned so I had to help all of them out but it went well and they are all totally healthy and vibrant chicks!

I could hardly believe my humidity was still too high... around 35 % !! So I opened vents wide to lower humidity for the batch of 15 Seramas that are still going. I have heard these little eggs loose moisture fast, but this batch is on day 10 and some barely have air cells. I'm just hoping for the best with these special eggs! Wish me luck : )

I remember how dry it is where you are...that would be really hard at lockdown! I guess we all have our unique challenges wherever we live!

LOL So glad all are doing good! I think I cursed my bator saying the temp was so great last hatch! Its been ranging 4 degrees according to the digital therm.

Not sure whats the problem. Everything is the same, but I'm not going to stress over it to much. Not a lot I can do but keep watching it and see how the eggs candle on thursday. Glad you got the humidity down! Hope all the rest do great for you!

Do eggs that have bloodlines smell? today is day before lockdown and I did the candling, all eggs seem fine but 1, has wht I think is a bloodline but no smell?
They shouldn't smell funky unless they're growing bacteria.

My broody is all done hatching her eggs, 6/6! They look to be 2 blues, 2 blacks and 2 splash- what are the odds!?!? Silkie babies are so cute it should be a crime

That little black in the back just cracks me up, it has a huge vault

I've had a black rooster over blue and splash hens for a long time (which means no splash chicks), so these were an awesome surprise! This means either my Sizzle rooster is blue instead of black or my blue cockerel has finally started breeding (I'm secretly hoping for splash Sizzles

). And, my incubator eggs have started rocking, they're due the day after tomorrow. YAY!
