I'm sure someone else will respond that knows a lot better, but my first chick if I can remember, took like 8 hrs or so to zip but then my last one I had to help after almost 12 hrs. Not sure that I can help with the answer..lol I just know it seems like once you help if others start pipping then it messes them up. So hard to watch!Well my little one hasn't made any progress in zipping in 5 hours now. It's in an egg carton. Do you think it would be ok for me to sit him on his side to see if that helps before considering to "help"
I should add when he thrust he just goes right through the same hole he's already made. He's got his beak open almost like he's trying to catch a breath.
Hard to tell but it almost looks upside down from how it should be but looks like its working pretty good. If opening the bator didn't shrink wrap him I think it will be ok. I would give it a few more hrs or so.
Yes its fixable but I had to read up on it. You need to tape feet straight. I had one of mine but it was late at night and didn't have anything and I think he might have died since he wouldn't stay off his back. I ended up sleeping with it and kept his feet flat on my stomach and by morning he was fine except his leg is messed up. Eats and drinks fine and gets around. Somewhere I read that its a thiamine deficiency or humidity was high during incubation. Maybe someone can help. I'm new at this. Good luck!!One of my barnevelders just hatched! Sadly its feet are curled up towards the inside. Is that fixable? Another one has an external pip! Wooooooo hoooooo!
