August Hatch-A-Long

Well my little one hasn't made any progress in zipping in 5 hours now. It's in an egg carton. Do you think it would be ok for me to sit him on his side to see if that helps before considering to "help"

I should add when he thrust he just goes right through the same hole he's already made. He's got his beak open almost like he's trying to catch a breath.

I'm sure someone else will respond that knows a lot better, but my first chick if I can remember, took like 8 hrs or so to zip but then my last one I had to help after almost 12 hrs. Not sure that I can help with the answer..lol I just know it seems like once you help if others start pipping then it messes them up. So hard to watch!

Very!!!! I decided to put him on his side. That's all I'm going to do for now here's a pic.

I'm guessing the thing pushing him on the left side of the egg is his gut? It's huge puffy and pink and its almost looking like its in his way

One of my barnevelders just hatched! Sadly its feet are curled up towards the inside. Is that fixable? Another one has an external pip! Wooooooo hoooooo!

Yes its fixable but I had to read up on it. You need to tape feet straight. I had one of mine but it was late at night and didn't have anything and I think he might have died since he wouldn't stay off his back. I ended up sleeping with it and kept his feet flat on my stomach and by morning he was fine except his leg is messed up. Eats and drinks fine and gets around. Somewhere I read that its a thiamine deficiency or humidity was high during incubation. Maybe someone can help. I'm new at this. Good luck!!

Actually I think it was because he had just come out of the shell. His feet look more normal. Waiting on them to dry so I can put them in the brooder. They are knocking the other eggs all over the place!

It's officially day 21. Nothing to report, no egg rocking, internal peeping. Is that normal? This is my first hatch. Gettign excited! Hopefully when I wake up in the morning there will be more news to report :)
