I got a bit of a head start on y'all- I've got 10 blue/black/splash Ameraucana eggs in my incubator on day 11. This will be my second batch of incubator babies. I had a power outage and issues with humidity with the first go around. When the first 2 babies hatched, they played soccer ball with the other eggs, which cracked a few that then hatched before the yolk sac/intestines were absorbed (I lost those). My ambient humidity is very high, so I'm not adding water until lockdown this time. Fingers crossed for a better hatch rate.

Here is my candling update, Day 5, from another Hatch-A-Long thread:

Day 5 candling results:
1 SBEL - no visual change
2 SBEL -

4 SCEL - Picture too dark, but about 1/2 of egg is dark.
5 GM - Originally had a scrambled looking membrane. Now:

10 Speckled olive mystery egg - Picture too dark, and egg is approximately 1/2 dark.

So I'm on day 8 of my eggs (7) and it's my first hatch. Only one egg looks like your #3, 2-3 have the dark oblong shape like some of yours, I shouldn't discount those right away even though I can't see veins? 2 are so dark I can't see anything it's like they're hard-boiled eggs.

I have read here on BYC to wait until day 10 to give up on an egg, unless it is smelly or has a blood ring, etc.
I have read the articles and looked at candling pictures, but I am still unsure about my ability to correctly assess my eggs. Plus, several of my eggs are darker in color, which makes it more difficult to see details.

I set mine on July 18th set for a August 7th hatch date. 16 eggs went in; 9 eggs from my White NN/White Bresse crosses (parents with bowties), and 6 eggs from White NN/Breese roo over CCLB hens. (I'm hoping for some NN with crest chicks to hatch out from the later.) I did my first candling on day 5 and one of the tan eggs had a bloodring in it, so was tossed. I did a second candling at day 10, and all 15 remaining eggs were still looking good. I won't candle again until it's time to do the lock-down.

Edit: I forgot to mention that all of these eggs are from my own flock, and I am using a still-air styrofoam incubator. Last time that I incubated like this, all 6 of my set eggs hatched.

If you are in question about yours, you can always post pictures of them here for help or second opinions.
