Yes, it very much is a trial and error kind of thing. the 65% goal was just to make sure we can reach lockdown levels.
I thought we had it last night. It was steady at 99F and 65% all day. I came home for work and it was 97 again. So I covered the whole thing with a towel. And half a hour later it was reading 95F @.@ the heck, the towel was supposed to help it warm up, not cool it down. So weird.
We even used a stronger watt light bulb, and it still wants to sit at 95 or 97.
I'm going to pull my hair out over this thing.

I wouldnt worry too much about final humidity - once those eggs start pipping - humidity goes up massively.
It does seem odd what’s going on your temperature though!
The only things I can think of are.... do you trust the thermometer? - do you have a fan in there or could you have hot & cold spots? Do you have an auto turner? I know the temperature in mine varies as it turns... but it averages out ok - but it means I have more than one thermometer in there - but that also helps with me worrying about whether one of them isn’t reading accurately.

Broody hens are so much easier!

I have two thermometers in there. And while they were pretty close, today they differ wildly. The small, not so trustworthy one reads 80% humidity and 94.4F While the other says 66% humidity and 99F
I'm debating going out to get a 3rd. or is that overkill? Maybe replace the not so trustworthy one.
By the way. Many thanks for putting up with this newbe hatcher and her issues. ^.^

You are welcome! I just hope something works! I’ve made so many mistakes & i’m still making them! I keep thinking I must be running out of ways to get this incubating thing wrong - but no - I’m still learning something every time!

Nothing wrong with adding more thermometers - Whatever works!

I have to say it’s the digital ones that I don’t tend to trust - but I find the bulb ones harder to read from outside & I don’t want to keep opening it up.... then the cradle moves & I can’t see what’s going on....so I add another thermometer over there....

I’m sure I can’t be the only one incubating with more than one thermometer & hygrometer - again it’s something I learned by getting it wrong and trusting to just one reading in one place. Personally I think if it works for you then go for it. You are the only one who can see how your incubator works & how the air moves - & if that needs multiple thermometers to monitor & maintain conditions for a successful hatch - then that’s what you need.

An oral thermomiter? I didn't know that would work. Nice idea^.^
I've decided I've done all I can for the incubator. the humidity will be fine. I know slow temp drops are not as bad as temp spikes. So if I wake up to abator that's 97, I won't freak out, I'll just throw a blanket on it for a hour to bring it back up.
