I moved my two August hatches out to their coop last night with no heat. 5 of them were 2 weeks old. 2 were 10 days old.
My September hatch is just finishing up. They're due in 9 hours but they started pipping yesterday afternoon.
How did the chicks do outside? We are in Kansas City and haven’t moved our two week olds out yet. I’ve been too concerned because every time we shut off the heat source they all huddle in a pile like they are cold.

I imagine they'd need a period to adjust, whatever temps you had inside and outside so long as they were different. My chicks (hatched 10 Aug by a broody) have been out with her since they were 3 days old. Outside temps here now are about 5-15 C.

They are fine. There are 7 of them. They can huddle and they are on nice fresh pine bedding. I had turned off the heat plate and it ranged from 70-80F in the room they were in. I decided to move them out when I did because we still had another 3 days coming of low 90s and mid 70s at night. So I wanted them to be acclimated when it started cooling down. Today and tomorrow are ranging from 70-85. It will be low in the upper 50s in another week. The chicks will be plenty able to handle that.
On more than one occasion I've had chicks ranging around 3 or 4 weeks of age escape into the woods at dusk and I wasn't able to find them. Expecting that they wouldn't survive the night because of lows in the 40s and predators - low and behold they returned in the morning looking just fine.
Chicks just aren't as fragile as most people think.

This thread is a little old, and August is over(I'm late to the party, it's halfway through September) But here's the results of my hatching endeavours! Misty's eggs took way too long to hatch (25 days, what the heck) so she deserted the nest with only three hatched, and I have the other four. But here she is! The two stripy babies are RIR crosses and the black one is silkie EE cross.
