Augusta Maine Poultry/ Farm swap April 28th TSC

blue laced reds wyandottes are not a reconized color yet and my orps are not show quality. I will have some show qualithy silkies and those are bantams. right now I am growing out all of the silkies for the most part, only the pets will be sold right off when they reach 8 weeks. no one can sell you a show quality chicken at 8 weeks or younger and if they say it is show potental, it just means it had correct everything at this time (correct toes and the right comb) but it could later change to pooring body coloring, split wings or some other disqualifying fault. when buying show quality, they should be pretty well grown up and if you are just starting to show, pick a solid color (all black, all white) it will be easier.

BYC has a sister site that is about other farm animals.

if you scroll to the very bottom of your screen, it's in the brown area.and you should be able to just click the link.
Were any of these suitable for my daughter to show? I was really hoping for a bantam but... ?

I should add that if your child wants to show in showmanship, she doesn't even have to own the bird she is showing, she can borrow one. it doesn't need to be show quality either as it's mostly a questions and answer about the different birds. if you want to show against the other birds, then you do need a show quality bird to win. I show my blue laced red wyandottes, I can't win anything other then best of color or best of variety, but I still have alot of fun.

Thanks, hoppy! We loved going to as many as we could last year. It was like little zoo trips for our daughter, plus it was nice to meet people from here and get some hands-on learning about animals we're interested in. Everyone was so nice and helpful. This year we want to add Silver Fox rabbits, so we're hoping the folks who brought them last year are there again!

with a warm day like today, I can't wait to see what march will bring for weather, hopefully it's warm, I've already started hatching.
