AUGUSTA, MAINE poultry swap/chicken stock saturday March 31st TSC

I'd like to go to the swap if anyone will be bringing any female bantam ducks. My male lost his mate and needs a new friend before he gets depressed. And if anyone is interested, I can bring a couple dozen eggs from my silkies and standard mutts. I'm unsure of the fertility rate since this is their first year laying. I"m almost positive the silkies are doing it right but I haven't checked my standard eggs yet. Please let me know if any of you will be bringing ducks. It quite a ways out of my way so I'd only prefer to go if I know for sure there will be ducks.

Have you checked with Al's Quackery? She's on here, I think her name is LearyCow or something like that, but you can find Al's Quackery on FB. She has a ton of ducks, not sure if she has bantams but might be able to point you in the right direction. Unfortunately she's around Saco I think... but might be worth a shot. I also got some call crossed with mallards from someone in the paper last spring, too, they were quite tiny when they grew up... I might be able to find their number for you, too. I think they were like Litchfield. They're not on BYC.

I am so very veery excited for saturday!! I will be coming with very limited chicken funds, but I think that is part of the plan...Hubs is truly afraid I will come home with goats, pigs, turkeys etc! I am really very interested in finding some cochins, especially the darker colors, and some Jersey Giants, and possibly some australorps. Like everyone else, I would love started pullets, but would really be willing to purchase fertilized eggs (I'm a new hatcher, and clearly addicted already!) Sometime later this spring I am really hoping  to add aa couple cayugas to our flock.

someone down in Windham has Jersey Giants chicks 2 and 3 week olds for $5. The number is 892-3735

They have had a few pairs of call ducks in the auction in fairfield. stuff changes there all the time and it is really hit or miss, but you never know, You could buy a pair and then put the other one back in the auction for you to sell!

Any help I can get would be soooo much appreciated! Thank you! I'll check Al's too :)

pheasants require permits from BOTH the buyer and the seller. if buying, bring your permit with you and of course if selling, you will need to have yours too.

I got a call tonight someone is looking for a young potbelly pig. they will attend the swap looking for one.
they did not indicate what sex they were wanted.
and an update on scrape info is added to the main maine swap thread. basically all goats and sheep must have a scrape tag from the farm of origin to be off the farm (but see the that thread for mroe details)
