Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I am going to strangle this broody. Day 2 in confinement. Came home to find her in the nesting box and this where our temporary gate take 2 was. She obviously just jumped at it till it fell down. Argh!!!!

I am so lucky my broody girl is good! She can be super annoying at times though. When I get home from work, she runs up to the car & bawks until I get her some sort of food. She doesn't care if it's a French fry or chicken feed. She wants fed and she will not quiet down until I get her something. (Spoiled!)

One day I will get round to glueing the bits together, every now and then a side falls off and the food goes everywhere. One of those million to do jobs :)

I've seen nipple waterers in the plumbing pipe. Is that what yours is?

I have little cups attached to white plumbing tube that's hooked into a 10 litre bucket

Who ordered the Ostrich?

My only light Sussex that hatched. (Roo too I think but the silkies think it's mummy)

So funny!

After giving my chooks scrambled eggs yesterday I had to survive the determined assault of 4 T-rex's this morning. If no egg was coming to them, they were going to come inside & GET IT! I discovered that in the time it takes me to get one out, if the door is open, the rest have managed to come inside. My cats watched my chicken removal attempts with great interest.
Snowy got her scrambled egg, but didn't come out to eat it so she may be in lockdown.

Apps apparently there is no stopping a determined broody

Cilla took down a timber divider trying to get to a nest box!

Sam love the Ostrich!!

I have a question which I hope is not a silly one! I have read a few posts on a couple of threads about broodies going into ‘lock down’. While having no experience with incubators I understand that they need to go into lock down, no opening, no touching of eggs etc.

But do broodies go into ‘lock down’??

If they do, my broodies did not get that memo!! The last three days of her hatch Tina was off the eggs 2-3 times per day whereas during the previous 18 days she only left them once a day.

If they do go into lock down; how do they know when?

I have tied the gate shut with rope this morning. If she is back in the nest box this afternoon when I get home she might just find its her tied up with rope tomorrow lol

I thought penny had gone into 'lockdown' too but she came out for a feed this morning so obviously not. Maybe its just so people know you are talking about the time period at the end not because of an actual behaviour change?

Gave me a chance to peek at the eggs but nothing yet. Did think maybe there was a teeny spot on one could have been the start of pipping but it was probably a cross between dirt and wishful thinking lol. Mind you day 20 doesn't really start till about 8:30 tonight as we rested them all day before putting them under when I stop and think about it.
