Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

G'day!
I'm planning my return to Australia and my next chicken coop!
Question? Where the hell do you all get fertile eggs and day old chicks from????? I'm hoping for:
Buff Orps
Copper Marans
Auracanas/Amers/Easter Eggers - ie. Blue Eggers
and some sort of hardy white egg layer. - thinking of going and rescuing some hens from the local egg farm.

If any of you are interested in selling me fertile eggs from your flocks in late April, I'm VERY VERY interested!!

Thanks!

I search gumtree for fertile eggs. Other then that no idea where you would get them. Sorry!

Facebook groups are a good place as well.

We don't have Ameraucanas here, but do havr Araucanas (not the US variety though).
Hardy white egg layers? Well I have dorkings and they are pretty good, but can be hard to come by.
You may want to look into Leghorns, Anconas or Minorcas for white eggs.

The black coppers in Australia are not like the u.s ones. The egg colour is below a 4 on the marans charts. Some new lines are being imported but the cost to buy one of those will be out of the reach of most people for a few years to come.

Five weeks ago a Wyandotte got off her eggs on day 18, did not notice for 3 days. Shifted them to another hen, got 80% hatch/ survive by day 25!!!
Eggs were STONE COLD!! Strong chicks will survive!! Just moved them to an outside brooder as we have had 9 degrees C most nights.

Good luck

No , these guys had been left too long. Never mind, she's very happy with her one little bub. You must have been extremely lucky to get such a good hatch rate.

So totally off topic but am I the only one thinks that there is now a TV show x(goggle box) where we get to sit on our lounge and watch other people sitting on their lounge watching tele is a really sad reflection on humanity lol

The guy running www.maransaustralia.com claims to be producing 5-6 rated eggs. His birds will set you back a pretty penny, though! $250 to $350 for a copper pair, male-female. He is primarily interested in selling to breeders.

My French Wheaten Maran I got for $35 looks way too dark to me now...not wheaten at all.

I've heard a LOT about that import, the first one lost hundreds of chicks due to a salmonella incident in quarantine, right? Whole lot destroyed.
