Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi all,

I have an abundance of fertile eggs for sale at $2 each (min 6 per order), and I am looking for the best place to advertise and sell. I've got olive eggers, lavender arancuna, black orphington, Bantam silkie, and rhode island reds.

Can anyone assist, I'm on gumtree but thought their may be another site.

Thanks,
Paul

Check out Facebook too. A lot of areas have their own buy and sell and many have their own poultry groups. If they are pure breeds you could try looking for each breeds group on Facebook.

There are lots of local Facebook chook groups.
That is where I sell all my eggs and chooks.

I don't want to start a thread and look like (more of) a total idiot... My little chook's face looks all red and irritated, but I suspect she's just growing a "chook face" like my other older chooks have (like comb material growing on their faces). She's 12 weeks or 15 weeks (I thought she was the older of the 2, but my other chook isn't as red as she is, although she is a bit red too.) Is that the right age for this or could she have dermatitis or got bitten by bugs or something?

Depends on the breed, but cockerels redden in the face and wattles between 6-8 weeks.
Isa Browns will redden in the face at 12 - 14 weeks as they come in to lay. Redness and puffiness or swelling could also be the onset of an upper respiratory problem.
Some pics , close ups of the head , would help. :)

Don't despair Annie, they will only take the calcium carbonate if they require it, most will leave it alone.
We are enjoying a beautiful morning shower and the white cockatoos are in by their hundreds. Our front paddock is a sea of white. They have their young in the trees around the house and all day you can hear the happy little sounds of bubs receiving mums regurgitated food . Went over to lock everyone up last night and found a newly hatched, still head bobbing splash Wyandotte, my little one eyed hen 'Chicken little ' received it with open arms. I swear that chicken is only happy when she is raising chicks.
The fires are in an area that hasn't received much rain, but our friendly firefighters from Vic and NSW have arrived to help out and relieve the already exhausted
CFS.

Our once dead grass has lovely tinge of green.

Again, thank you Fancy ..... will go with the oyster shell grit, and ignore what may or may not happen with it. Best keep my eyes shut, methinks.

Those white ( and black ) cockies sure are good at rain prediction. I prefer to listen to nature for weather forecasts, more than anything else.

I am sure your little hatchling will be covered with motherly love by 'Chicken Little' ....that is so sweet - adorable.

Glad our guys are there helping you all out. The Fire-fighters from all States are so wonderful - and so willing to get to and help in bad situations.

One small comment - - - .... Mandy Welsummer who hasn't laid an egg in weeks, and is in a slow moult - squatted for me today. ??? I scratched her neck and back, she fluffed up - and that was the end of it. THAT amazed me, as I was under the impression, that once they are in a moult, they cease to be interested in anything to do with re-production. ?? She has resumed her reddish comb too - but no eggs ( which doesn't surprise me at all ) ..... do they DO this - normally ?

Cheers - and enjoy the helpful, rainy weather.

...........

I'd say it's the right age for chookyface, she's starting to mature more from the sounds of it. I had this happen with Esme, I went to let her out one morning and thought she'd had an allergic reaction to something, as her face was red, but then within a minute her face had changed back to a lighter colour again. She's just turned four months, this started a month ago. Only if she scratches it, or it swells and seems to cause discomfort then it could be something nasty. It's fun watching them grow though :)

There's no puffiness, it's just like a rash type of thing. Her face is pale (shes araucana crossed with light sussex) and instead of its usual pale pink, it's sort of darker pink, like a razor rash or something like that in people. I'll try to take a photo of her tomorrow.

Well, if she's my older chook, she was 12 weeks when I get them on 11 Jan so she'd have been born early november, so just coming up to 3 months. If that's when it starts, then that may be what's going on. She's certainly grown a lot since I got her, so if the development is weight dependant as it is in humans, she's probably hit the threshold by the looks of her. If she keeps growing the same, she'll end up a big girl.

Quote:
When I saw her today, she didn't seem any different, not poorly or scratchy or anything. Just normal. Yes, it's fun watching them grow. They are much less "scaredy-cat" now. They come out into their yard without all the "DON'T KILL US!" carry-on that they used to do when they first came.
