Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Start chucking in some of their favourite nibbles. They'll soon learn to love it.

EDIT please no cute silkie pics. I can't FIT any more chickens. LOL
Funny Paul let them into the run with the new coop in it. They are up and down the ramp and in the nesting boxes already. Can't believe it. Funny I always thought ISA's a bit dumb. We'll see tonight were they decide to roost. I was going to post some of my new coop and my silkies now they've grown up a bit.
Were is the man you got your silkies from maybe I could get a male from him. Lol I'm down 3 chooks so I need some more. Chicken math isn't it.
My older australorps don't have big combs but 3 of my 7 week olds have quite big combs and are bigger than their mates. So I'm assuming that they are the only roos I've got. My girls aren't noisy so I'm hoping to be able to have 10 australorps and quite a few silkies (they are aviary birds so I won't count them).

Fancy showed Paul the photo he said told you they look like dinosaurs.

Ok, managed to get some photos. Here's Marcy showing her dinosaur beak. You can't really see how it is because it's pale (and I'm useless at taking photos) but it's really long and pointy and raptor-like, IMO.

This is Marcy and Grace now, showing how much they've grown since I got them at 9/12 weeks as they looked in my avatar.

And just threw these in of my "chicken guards"

I have a visitor .. this little guy wandered into my front yard and I am trying to find his owners. He is wearing a Council tag and Council has placed a call to the number they have for the owner but that was 08:30am and I have not heard anything back. I have a call into a few local Vets and also placed an ad on Gumtree's Lost & Found.

When hubby gets home with the car, I will take him down to my Vet to see if he is microchipped.

The scary thing ....

This is Charlie-Bear who passed away just over 5 years ago:

and this is my visitor .... I hope his mum and dad contact me soon or I may just get attached

Potato chip, It's nice to see how much your girls have grown! Marcy does have a dinosaur like face, all the better to terrorize those poor mealworms with ;)

Anniebee   So - I stand convicted .... I have a lone chicken.  !!
So do I I have Lucky she’s 17weeks every time I try integrating her with the younger girls even though they are now roughly the same size she fights them.  I haven’t given up. Now the new coop is built I will try moving her in the old one with the others and  some wire between them hopefully they will get used to each other. She had a soft toy she slept with as a little chick but it was dirty I turfed it.

Fancy I would love to have some Silkies. I might have to breed too. My male is from the same dad as the others.  I think I may have to get some eggs. I’m a bit wary of bringing in chickens now after reading some of some of the problems with red mite etc. I absolutely love your pics.

The coop is finished. They worked till it got dark.  Then the girls wouldn't get in, I had to get them into the old coop.  So after reading what you have written about new digs, I may have to lock them in it for a bit today. Maybe till they have laid an egg so they know that's their new home.

Mites , lice and disease are always a risk when introducing new birds, but if you observe a proper quarantine period (5-6 weeks ) your chances of your flock being infested is greatly reduced. That being said lice, mites and many of the real nasty diseases are generally brought in by vermin, visiting birds and mosquito.
The mites are having a great old time because of the extended warm weather, good thing is that their numbers are greatly reduced once the weather drops below 5degrees. :)

Silkies are the 'teddy bear ' of the poultry world. I've been breeding for 15 years, love them.

Not too hard to imagine.

Absolutely gorgeous birds! The colours, their little faces, just beautiful. They're such funny, joyful little creatures. I'm guessing reality is what stops you spending all day cuddling them.
