Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hhhm, it may be a combination of the way he is sitting and his thinness.

Currently he is camped out in our carport in the hopes that the owners return the Council call. I do not want to send him off to the pound but might have to if I do not hear anything back. Not sure what the process is but I do not want him to be put down

I would love to keep him but I am not sure the chickens, cats and landlord would feel the same way

Edited to Add: Apparently he could be a Lemon Border Collie

So, I took the little guy to my Vet to check for a microchip and he had one. They have left a message on both contact numbers. He apparently comes from a rural location half way between the Gold Coast and Brisbane and we are thinking because he is desexed, microchipped, registered and did not have one flea on him, he could be skinny because he is a working dog. He did sit and drop on command and also shook hands

Either that or he has been missing for a while.

Anyways, because he would have to spend the night in our carport on a rope, my Vet will take him for a couple of days free of charge, feed him etc and hopefully the owner will call them. The Vet is going to let me know what happens and also ring me before they have to send him off to the pound.

I have the ad on Gumtree, a call into Council, a post on the Queensland Lost Pet Register Facebook page and registered him with found pets at the RSPCA; so hopefully I will have a happy ending to deliver very soon.

What am I going to do with the two cans of dog food I bought?

Fingers crossed he finds his home. Feed the dog food to the chooks, they will love it. :)

If he's a working dog he may not worry about chickens. Just saying.

Mites , lice and disease are always a risk when introducing new birds, but if you observe a proper quarantine period (5-6 weeks ) your chances of your flock being infested is greatly reduced. That being said lice, mites and many of the real nasty diseases are generally brought in by vermin, visiting birds and mosquito.
The mites are having a great old time because of the extended warm weather, good thing is that their numbers are greatly reduced once the weather drops below 5degrees.

Thanks for the info. We've tried very hard to keep vermin out (wire and concrete everywhere) and our coop has just been re netted so hopefully birds can't get into the coop. The only thing we can eradicate is flies and mosquitoes but I am doing the deep litter now and I hang a couple of sticky bug strips in the coop and that seems to help.
I not in a huge hurry for more hens and the grandkids loved hatching eggs. So I might find some more fertile eggs.
