Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

@satay. Was just bemoaning the 40-80mm forecast for us both sat and sun. After seeing your forecast I shall start counting myself lucky instead!

Brissys total is alot but we out here are only supposed to get between 25mm and 50mm. Hey i'd happily take 25mm at this point.

Hi Everyone :frow
Just popping in quickly to say that after a couple of months eggless - I found an egg yesterday & another today.  :celebrate   My older ladies have moulted a lot harder this year & had a complete break as well as my two aras who looked fine so not sure why they stopped.  I can't believe how expensive shop bought eggs have become & how much I missed my flock's eggs.
Anyway, we got a nice bit of rain today - perfect for studying & 8 days to go until my exam after which I shall enjoy a day off from life & binge read / catch up with what had been going one in BYC while I've been mia.

Glad you got some eggs finally and some rain too.

Good morning folks

MyHaven I have raced to a pile of feathers on a few occasions, with dread in my heart, to encounter a sunbathing chicken .. bad silkies and frizzles, scaring you like that!

Fizzybelle wow, Beatrice does have a large comb! She is so beautiful .. I say it again, gimmee! Lol

SilkieChickStar on the couple of occasions I have needed to bath my gals, they struggle until they hit the water but you can almost hear a “mmmm, that is nice”

Hey satay yep, the ABC Radio were saying some areas could get up to 200mm tomorrow and the BOM says a 95% chance of 35-100mm in Brissie with some thunder storms thrown in for good measure. To be honest, I am not looking forward to tomorrow. This will be the first real test of how good our coop build was. It has stayed nice and dry so far but 100mm in one day will definitely be the real test.

cwrite good to see you again. Congrats on the egg .. still an egg free zone here. Congrats also on the rain and best of luck for the exams.

Morning, we have a thick fog here but once it lifts there will be blue skies. Spent the day clipping Robin yesterday , unfortunately our vet found that the rather expensive QLD vet missed a cavity in one of dutchys front teeth. so he has to go on a low sugar diet.
Sad story from the midlands here. A lady that rehabilates off the track horses brought in a horse from the mainland that is carrying herpes. This particular strain is a bit like mareks , it affects them neurologically . The state vets were called in and they had to put 33 horses down.:(
Bio security is hard to enforce with horse carriers , the blood tests for this and other such disease is $1,100 . Can't see many people paying that on top of purchase and freight fees. Just hope our horse didn't travel with the same courier.

Hi everyone. I hope all are well. Been busy, so I haven’t been on for a bit. Wow heaps of posts to read.

Fpvbill Hi Welcome Love the Photo of your daughter and silkies. Silkies are great with kids. My granddaughters love ours. The love a cuddle.

Hens From Aus Hi Welcome. Love the pictures. What a palace and beautiful girls.

Teila I wish my silkie roo would lose his voice. He crows all day. Though I wonder if he does. Sometimes when I’m watching he opens his mouth and stretches up and nothing comes out.
I’m so glad you don’t have to go out and bail water anymore.
I was the same when I saw the photo of Fancy’s horse being clipped. Goes to show I don’t know anything about horses.
SilkieChickStar What beautiful silkies.

Fizzybelle Wow a great first egg. She look gorgeous. I want one too.

Appps I hope colonel and winry are doing better now.

cwrite good luck on the exams

Dutchy is a beauty I hope he didn't travel with that courier either. I would have thought the people she got the horse from would know if they had horses with herpes. I feel very sorry for the lady. It would have been a huge blow.

I forgot to ask if anyone in Perth would like a silkie roo. I can put a photo up of him. He is very vocal so far I haven't had any complaints. The lady behind me thinks it great hearing a rooster crow
But I'm afraid he doesn't let up a times it constant for 5 mins at time.

Does anyone know why they crow so much? I go out and check when he's at it, but I can't see anything wrong. I gave a australorp roo away as I thought they may have been competeing but it didn't make any difference. I think I still have some roos (not crowing yet, but they have bigger combs than their siblings) could he be telling them he is the boss.
Thanks

That comb was so weeny till a few weeks ago. I must say though, D'Uccle's get on well with Pekins

Not as round, but just as cuddly!

Cwrite, good luck with your exams, I just handed in my last assessment for the semester, I'm freeeeeeee.....well, from uni anyway for just over a month.

Not bad rain wise today, but I'd like more overnight. Hopefully we'll see some green in the next few days. Doesn't take long for the grass to recover after rain. Takes much longer however for grass to bounce back after chickens though.

Fancy - I too hope the same courier was not used. I would imagine you have already tried to find out .... so's you can be prepared to pay vet bills and treatment if need be -

which I sincerely hope will not have to be the case.

So very sad for the poor woman who lost all her saved horses because of this awful disease. And I sure hope some Agricultural authority has come down real hard on the person who sold on the original horse with a bad type herpes. ( EHV1 ? ). As it can spread so quickly, perhaps it should be mandatory that nasal swabs be taken before any horse travels .... something / anything to stop this kind of thing happening, although that would not be considered anywhere near 100% assurity. But it might help ?

And bio-security is an issue with carriers that should be looked into much much further.

There are symptoms associated with this horrid thing, but ( like us with a cold virus ) ... they don't appear until the incubation period has passed, and the virus is well established.

Just a thought or two ...... hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Cheers .......
