Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

So glad decent rain is on the way, there's been less and less green with each day. Appps, so glad to hear there's some positive progress with your girls, and colonel pulled through and is improving :)

I just took this of the proud little egg layer, her first pic since becoming an official hen yesterday. Didn't realize how much her comb had grown too! It's also currently raining and everyone is undercover except Agnes the silly silkie. Sigh.
Is this your Belgian? Cute!!! The other day I had to bath one of the silkie chicks because somehow she got poop caked into her back. I set up a small tub of warm water and put her in. I kind of expect her to fight but she loved it!

Thank you :)

Glad bathing was an enjoyable experience for both you and your little silkie, my Agnes has made it clear to me she's not keen on water. Most of the girls aren't though, but they DO love the hair dryer. It's weird for them at first, but the noise doesn't bother them too much once they realize how nice and warm it is. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it ;) Also my RIR hybrid Annabelle loves being swaddled up like a baby in a towel if she's wet and needs a dry down lol.

I use a small tub and pop it in the laundry sink, a mild soap and gently place them in the tub. Most love it once they feel the warmth of the water. At this time of the year bathing is only recommended for birds that have been dried with the hairdryer as that is the part that can freak them out, and they need to be dried properly. :)

It's very warm in our house thankfully plus she still has the heat lamp at night so it wasn't long till she dried.

I wasnt sure about soap so just used water.

@Fizzybelle I will have to try the hair dryer one day. I didn't want to freak her out lol.

Meanwhile SE Qld weather warning thus weekend http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-...t-queensland-weekend/7469282?WT.tsrc=Facebook

Are you sure your chickens aren't cats? They seem to have multiple lives. You certainly have a healing touch to get them through.

Thanks for updating.

Lol. Well Carl has for sure. Sadly my healing touch is always balanced with oops I was so busy I missed that for way longer than I should have in the first place

The kids not terribly happy about their new temporary accomodation. Poor old colonel at the back is normally a lot fatter than our runty winry at the front.

Good morning folks :frow

Fizzybelle congrats to you and Beatrice on that first egg, it is a beauty! :thumbsup

Aaaaw fpvbill that picture of your daughter is adorable!

Fancy see, that shows you how much I know about horses .. I saw your picture and was going to ask what you were clipping on the side of her face, especially because of the sedation required.  Then I realised it was hair clippers and could see the long hair .. doh, silly me :smack

Appps that is great news about Colonel and I have my fingers crossed that Winry starts to come good soon :fl

We have some showers predicted today, 70% chance of 1 to 5mm and there was a light drizzle this morning when I delivered breakfast to the princesses.  Tomorrow there is an 80% chance of 3 to 15mm.  Saturday 95% chance of 30 to 80mm!

Not that the girls and I need any more reasons to love their new digs; not having to juggle covers due to rain is definitely one.  Not only is their run covered permanently now but they have a nice, big, raised coop that they can hang out in :D   No more worrying if they are going to be OK and able to stay out of the rain [which they do not like]; no more having to bail water out from the covers where they have sagged and pools are forming with the weight of water; no more worrying about them having to squish into a small coop to stay dry; no more having me get soaking wet trying to keep them dry and repositioning covers that the wind might have moved.  For the first time since owning chickens, I will be able to sit inside, maybe even enjoy a movie knowing they are going to be OK, if not a little miffed that free range is probably not on the agenda ;)

I heard could be up to 200 mm saturday to sunday in Brisbane. Hubby said showers of rain all the way to work this morning and has been raining most of the day in Beenleigh. My grand total? 0, zip, nada.:idunno

So many beautiful fluffy babies Silkiechickstar! You must be so proud, they're adorable :love Speaking of proud, have a gander at this :ya I had to go out so didn't update right away from my earlier post, but it took about 45 mins, and Beatrice let me know all was over with a well earned egg song. I am gobsmacked at the size of this thing! Considering the bird it came from, it's huge! No wonder all the complaining! Amazing effort for a first egg, so proud of my little whinger. I hope she goes to bed with minimal fuss tonight after such a big day.
The do lay a good sized egg for their little bodies.

Not to make light of appps and her chookies current predicament with eating etc, but if they were cats that would explain a lot ;)
