Well, my girls are doing ok. They have recovered nicely in the main. I still have the one SLW that is as heavy as a piece of paper but she is otherwise well so I expect improvement.
One of my buttercups looks like a boy. That's one less I guess in the oversized flock. He has a nice comb though - such a shame.
Satay my girls didn't get the memo on the chilli either.
My cuckoo Marans (tongue in cheek, she's out of a cuckoo egg but is black except for a single white feather on each wing) laid her first egg!!! And I have another D'uccle laying!!!But I can't eat them because of the antibiotics![]()

Does anyone know a use for antibiotic eggs? Only 3 dozen.
40 chickens and I bought eggs a couple of weeks ago. They were really awful. They were home grown. They came from rescued battery hens. They are fed the cheapest laying mash that can be found $13/20kg bag and a lot of soy meal to up the protein. They are pale, fishy tasting, the egg whites are watery and they didn't stay fresh. I added two drops of yellow food colouring to my kids scrambled eggs so he recognised them.
The next joke is, this week, I had to buy eggs from someone I got going with chickens.
I picked up my metal feeder that I won in a raffle at the Dayboro rare breeds and variety show. I had to pick it up from the Samford markets. Someone there had locally grown garlic, turmeric and perennial leeks - so I'm going to try to grow some. I just have to build a cage to keep the possums out.
Last year my car went under, last weekend my house got flooded. My young one came running in yelling "your not going to believe this, it's hilarious, there's a river in the house." He was right, there was and also a water fall.
The girls and their feed got drenched.
I Hope everyone faired better.

@Fancychooklady you weren't one of those crazy Tasmanian's swimming nude in the ocean the other morning were you? I saw it on the news last night. I know you guys like your cold weather down there but that is ridiculous![]()
Don't know about the turmeric , which is $45 a kilo in the health shop , but the chooks here don't bother with the garlic growing in the garden. Sorry to hear about your Water fall.

Good grief MyHaven ..... you sure have had your woes. Am pleased however, to learn that your girls are better, and improving.
As for 3 dozen anitbiotic eggs ????????? ..... blow them and paint them for next Easter ( or whenever ). Would be about all you could do.
Keeping possums out is a pain in the backside. If you can get crates ( like those for milk ) .... put them over the young plants, which I presume would be in a smallish pot or seed planter. Not sure where you can get them .... steal them ? ( NOT recommended ) ... buy them or beg for them from a supermarket. Milk crates seem to range from $10 > $20 to purchase, but that is a lot of money. Other than that, make your own wire cage to fit over the seed planters. Bunnings wire is fairly expensive. A local garden centre might be able to sell you some wire at reasonable cost, if you haven't any already. I have made wire cages for herbs etc., need to do a lot of moulding, bending and shaping to make a wire cage.
................
Only the young could come up with something like your litte 'un said to you. Such fun - a river AND a waterfall in the house.e
I so hope you were able to clean all that up, and save precious items inside your home.
New dry feed for the girls, and presumably they are drying off now themselves - or you have used the hair dryer on them all ( a days' work at least ).
You sure have fun up there, don't you !!! ( sarcasm alert ).
We ( in Victoria ) are headed for even colder weather than this week, come Friday and onwards. I just wish it would get honest and SNOW properly. Snow is so much cleaner and a different kind of cold. Much nicer than icy winds and freezing dammned rain.
Good luck with all you have to do ....
Cheers .......
Hehe, no not me, I have too much ' mainland blood ' in me. I spent the day in emergency with hubby ( 3rd time this week) . It's our 35th wedding anniversary today so we're heading into Hobart for lunch.
