Congrats to all the owners of the egg laying chickens ... and to the chickens of course as well. .... Now that it's almost Spring - although no-one in Victoria would know it, but with splashes of sunshine here and there - mostly cold and rainy with more to come.

Lots of chookie noise out in the back garden this morning ... have not yet been out to see what has been produced.

Fizzybelle - good luck with Agnes. Am sure your vet will get it all under control.

Cheers folks ... and have a good day.

Fancy, they are just the cutest! Congrats to you and the lucky mother hen too :)

Aggies visit with the bird vet went well, she yelled through most of it, and I mean YELLED. Looks like it might be trauma from an injury that occurred. She's seeing the ophthalmologist tomorrow for a closer look. I definitely would recommend the vets at Manly Rd in Brisbane though, very helpful and kind and he did a thorough examination. Aggie's in good health though otherwise.

Oh and Appps, we were discussing how much our silkies weighed, looks like my kitchen scales are useless, Agnes was weighed today, she's 800gms! Closer to the usual kilo. Not surprising really, since her favorite activity is putting her head in the food bowl.

And finally, Mabel my young Araucana did lay an egg today! It's more green than the blue I was expecting, but still very pretty. The big kerfuffle she made this morning paid off.

Here she is stealing my water, but she needed it more than me.

Nice info on everyone's avacardo efforts. My best we lost to damp at 3 years old. Congrats on the flowers.

On the Welsummer. She looks ready to lay, so when the weather suits her, and she happy to food is abundant she will start to squat and then start to lay.

I got 8 eggs from my chooks today, and I think I'm down to 9 hens, 2 of which are still mothering chicks.
That's a pretty good effort. I think I need to find a way to use a few more eggs, as 3 a day is the most I can eat.
The funny thing is mine are the ornimental chooks. The layers in a nearby pen are now at 2 eggs a day from 8 hens.

Thanks for that.
My girls seem to be making up for the dry spell during the extra moult this year.

I do hope they can help Aggies eye. I had to have an eye removed on my blue Aussie following trauma. It ruptured - can't imagine the agony. All good now though. Congrats on the egg. Lovely shade. :yiipchick
