Hey Chelle and SlyDog welcome to the thread! Good to meet you both and looking forward to getting to know you and your featheries.

Wow CorrieW I hope that recedes quickly. Your chookies, however, are probably hoping it stays for a while so they get more of your salad

appps Yep, your Hawk is beautiful! It is sad that he is such a threat.

Fizzy I am pleased Beatrice did not blow away

After having to be in the office for 2 of the last 3 days and the girls having to be locked in the run etc, I really did not have a chance to check out the condition of the run until after I got home from work today .. I am pleased to say that the deep litter is damp in a few places but on the whole, remained pretty dry while everything around it was and still is water logged.

satay great news about everything being OK at your place. I did not notice the wind surges this morning but I am not embarrassed to admit that I was freaking out last night and so relieved when it was all over.

Some pics of the aftermath .....

This is next door’s palm tree which fell during the worse of the winds. I am not sure how tall it actually was but it was quite tall and this is probably just under at least 1/3 of it [it was taller than their two storey house and they are very lucky it fell in the direction it did and not onto the house]:

This is where it fell .. that is my power box so I was a cat whisker away from being without power until probably next week:

I did not make this pile of debris .. the wind piled it up for me:

My usually pristine driveway and verge between me and next door and one of the reasons I have a busy weekend ahead:

We have no palms on this side of the house or around the coop etc so this one blew in from either out the front [neighbours] or the other side of the house:

The neighbour's outdoor setting was trying to come through the fence for a visit:

And, probably the saddest for me, some of my large potted plants on their side. The fern at the back is in a huge pot and that pot was tied to the black stake; the wind broke the tie and toppled the pot. With the front plant, the pot remained upright but the plant which is about 3ft tall, was flattened [I have supported it but not sure if it will make it

] and the 'stick' in the background had 7 or 8 large 'elephant-ear' leaves and now has one small one

On a brighter note .. the Forrest Beach coop is coming along nicely:

That is a huge run for 5 spoiled bantams!

Getting a bit dark to take pictures but progress is definitely being made:

Ugh. Just had to chase the goshawk off the chook pen. That's 3 sightings in a week. He seems to have a one tracked mind

Tut appps that is not good news. Hopefully he gives up soon and the chookies do not have to stay locked up for too long. They probably are also not very happy about having him sitting there watching and waiting .. poor chookies!

I have a bit of a story to share .. remember the palm tree across the verge and onto the road. When I got home from work yesterday someone had rightly pulled the palm tree off the road but doing that meant that ½ of my front verge was covered in palm tree and leaves. Knowing that I wanted to mow the lawns this morning, I set about trying to fix that. I couldn’t swing it back off my lawn because it would end up back in the road and no way could I lift it over the power box to lay across his verge; too heavy.

So, while I am standing there trying to work out how to tackle this one, the neighbour from across the road and her brother come over to offer assistance. Rather than trying to lift it etc, the brother suggested we put it back to its original position and just saw off the part protruding into the road. Also, lifting and moving it would mean destroying more of his 'garden' [I use the term loosely].

As we were doing this, the neighbour whose tree it was came out to see what we were doing. I explained that I was trying to get it off my verge so I could mow and had he called Council or anyone to come and remove it. His response “Nah, I am not too worried about it, it is not causing an issue”.

Seriously? While he may not care because his garden looks like a weed retreat and now has a downed palm tree squashing half of his garden beds, not only is his downed tree a problem for me, it is also a problem for pedestrians walking down the verge at night in the dark and I am pretty sure the postman is not going to be happy when he encounters it on Monday!

Usually I am Mrs Nice Lady and avoid confrontation but I had had just about enough at this stage and let him know exactly what I was thinking and walked away patting myself on the back for finally sticking up for my rights.

Now we wait to see just how long the tree stays there and/or if it becomes a permanent feature.

How can he look you in the face and say it's not a problem when it's on your verge. Selfish!

Glad to hear the house escaped Corrie!

Corrie Wow that looks bad! I hope you dry out soon and get power back even sooner!

appps I do have some words to describe my neighbour but I do not want to blot my BYC record
