Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey Apps. I hear shiny spinning discs deter the hawks. May be of help

Hi Fancy. How's the family. Been a while, how's your girls going ?

Hey Sam, nice to hear from you again. Our eldest girl has moved to Launceston to commence her nursing degree. Youngest has finished school and is filling our little farm up with more equines.
How's your lovely little corner of the world? My mum is sick of the rain.

With this weather the moult has hit hard n fast on all my girls. They all stopped laying and I literally have a coop full of feathers - thinking of leaving them there I found one girl snuggled down in them

Hehe, sounds like a typical tassie day. Jacket on jacket off, jacket on.................................

Fancy I followed your advice and also checked over Beatrice's feet again tonight. No sign of bumblefoot. There was some scale build up on her feet and legs that I scraped off which made her a little uncomfortable as it might have been tender. I'm keeping up with the vaseline to ensure any possible mites are smothered. I think scaly leg is the issue here, it just seems the most likely culprit for now. I'll see how it goes and continue to monitor her progress. Thank you though :)

Btw What colour is your new Araucana? My Mabel is a very friendly chicken, follows you around like a puppy, so your daughter should have a great little companion. They're a really great breed, lay lots of eggs (providing you don't end up with a roo. I haven't had to deal with Mabel going broody either thankfully), just very noisy...I had no idea how much lol.

I have my first auracana, they are very people orientated. I took mine on to keep a lonely Coro company, unfortunately the Coro was one of the chicks taken by the hawk. So little aracauna has become a constant companion for my daughter. Bet it's a roo.

Fancy ... the one girl of my only 3 chookies who is not amiable, is my little Araucana, Mindy. Although she seems to be good with Miss Ruby dog - but not with humans. !!

Loves to play 'run at the fence' with Miss Ruby. !!

They seem to have their own play rules. !!

Its possible that she likes to play and runs around like a mad thing when it is bed time - but once I say "bed" she too, goes straight into her lone coop. But she is definitely not a cuddler.

Funny aren't they - all of them.

Cheers ~~

It has been pouring rain nonstop for the past few weeks and I couldn't get to my grandparents farm (where I keep my chocks) to see them. It was a bright sunny day yesterday and I managed to get down there. I had a look at all my chocks to see how they went in the rain and I noticed one of my Hamburg hens face was all lumpy and scabby.

Could it be Fowl Pox? Or mosquitoes bites, there have been a lot around lately. I haven't had this problem with my chocks before so im a little stuck on how to treat it. I have separated her and another hen that was with her incase it is anything bad or contagious.

I will also have to repair all my chock houses so they are more rain proof.

Oh your poor girl! It does look like fowl pox, see what everyone else says as well. You were right to separate her. I think you can put betadine on the sores to keep them clean and help them dry out quicker. I'd also check in her mouth for sores to confirm it's just dry fowl pox, not wet. I hope she feels better soon though, I love hamburgs, they are gorgeous birds.

Could be fowl pox, if so it is a virus and will run its course. You can dab it with betadine .

Be careful with scraping them, Vicks or Vaseline applied weekly will sloth it off without ant discomfort to the bird.
Our little ara is lavender. Loves people. :)
