This is ours. There's not much of it.

Is it possible to buy grain in CARDBOARD or PAPER bags?
I have made a feed plan for my flock but I'm having trouble with the grains. I need Whole Wheat, Whole oats, and cracked/whole corn.
My local-ish produce store sells all the grains,
Hard Wheat 25kg $.22.50
whole oat 25kg $.23.50
cracked corn 25kg $.26.50
75kg = $.72.50
Which is a very good price for value, but it is in large plastic bags and I am trying to reduce the waste(or waste altogether) from the farm.
Any company/mill suggestions? I am on the Southcoast NSW.

My local fodder store bags feed up into 5 or 10kg. Is that what yours does? If so, you could just open and tip into a box, then give them their bag back.

Failimg that, Laucke makes a grain mix in a jute sack, which can be re-purposed.

That's me out. No more ideas :confused:

Can I ask why you are making your own feed? Most produce stores sell feed that has
been designed for layers & it's reasonably priced. My breeder also told me to go easy on the cracked corn as it puts the weight on, was low in nutrition, & because the birds love it they will pick it out meaning their diet becomes unbalanced. Just asking.

This is what I use. It's reasonably priced & lasts me 4~6 weeks for 4 birds.

I've bought some new chooks and they only eat grain mash, not pellets. I will grind the grains and make a wet mash, I will also let them free range as much as I can, (we have a very bad fox and hawk problem) I only feed Corn in cool weather, and they don't like it as much as wheat or oats so it's usually last to go.

Ah ok. Mine isn't pellets. It's a sort of mash. @Butterscotchbitesfinger might have a better idea. If you haven't already [& you probably have] I would try the produce stores. They sell in bulk. I've never seen cardboard but the bags are heavy duty & reuseable.
