Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

We can't hear you. Lol. I have 4 broodys so I take their eggs off them and have put blue laced red Wyandotte eggs under them. The silkies don't care, I think they'd be content with an emu egg under them.

Now, there's a picture, a silkie on an emu egg. :lau

I use Vicks vaporub, tell your boss to wait till he's on the roost for the night. Apply it nice and thick, making sure to get in between and under the toes and right up into the feather line. Once a week for 2-3 weeks usually does the trick. It works on the same principal as Vaseline , but the camphor has a soothing affect on the skin and I imagine the lice don't like it in their eyes. I've read a lot about castor oil on this site, so I'm going to give it a go next time. But for now Vaseline and Vicks are " tried and true ", and most importantly easiest to apply.
Or- paint all the chickens legs with a mixture of vegetable oil and pyrethrum based insecticide. Also paint all the perches with it.

My Blue and Black Australorps went into lockdown today and they are already wobbling and moving. Can't wait for them to hatch!
Are these your's or Renise's or a mix? Did you get a idea of how your lad is doing in the fertility department?

I love those last couple of days of a hatch :)

Would anyone mind sharing their Welsummer egg pics? I am curious to know how dark they are compared to a local Maran's.

Does anybody know why a chick, about two and a half months old, would just suddenly die?
I have the chick with the hurt leg in a browser to keep safe and warm and I put his buddy in with him to keep him company but this morning I found her dead. :( what's going on with the babies here? :(

Any suggestions for how to help the chick with the hurt leg?

Hi Ben,
These are all Renise's eggs. I am collecting a few dozen eggs at the moment and selling them at a cheaper price to someone who was quite keen however I did warn them that I cannot guarantee anything in the fertility department as I haven't checked any for while. I wasn't advertising them but they were quite keen as they happen to be in the area. I am going to ask her to tell me what ends up hatching so we know how our fertility is. I know that one of my black girls is fertile and the rooster is very active with the others but I think that their butts are too fluffy lol. His favourite hen at the moment is a blue but I still cannot guarantee anything unless eggs went into the bator. I am not keen to trial any in the incubator at the moment as I have some hatching in a couple of days.
