Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Quails do not make any noise and can be kept in any place you would have a budgie. They are not considered poultry according to city councils in Australia, they are aviary bird, which is a great little loophole for a lot of people. Some have them in a unit or townhouse, in the garage, on the balcony etc. I started with 3 hens in a guinea pig hutch. I have japanese (coturnix) quails, for eggs.
Their lifespan is only 2.5 years, that's why I bought an incubator and hatch them now. Too expensive to keep buying birds...Their eggs are lovely and have great nutritional value.

It takes 85 seconds to soft boil a quail egg :) A lot of "trial and error"  went into this one !!!

Jap quail males can be very noisy when they crow but a lot quiter than a rooster. Females would be the way to go as they pretty much make no noise at all.

Super frustrating.

Is it possible to catch dogs like you can ferrel cats etc?  When my parents had a ferrel cat problem they hired a cage from the pound and then just had to ring when they had one for them to take away.  Just thinking if you catch him in a cage on your land they can hardly say he isnt in there?

We had one for many weeks but could not catch the ruddy thing in it. The council guys said it is cause it is not hungry but killing poultry for fun not food.

Hey Luke, think I found the perfect bird for you on gum tree. It's a rooster malan which I'm guessing should be maran.

Good thing about it is apparently its a rooster pullet so maybe it won't know its a boy and so not crow lol

Funny enough Luke I don't count numbers of chickens but I know when one is missing usually, Like when Maxi died recently. My girls all go into their house at night and are locked up in there. It is usually when I let them out to free range that I notice if one is not there. I have not lost a large fowl hen or rooster to a fox. I lost my white faced black Spanish male to the neighbours dog. I have mostly had ducks and turkeys taken out by predators.
Yeah you were right to there was quite a few roosters in the picture too.

If i need to treat for anything i do it at night when they are all roosting.

Oh O.K, you must know your girls of by heart then. I love Spanish! I really need to see some of your flock...So I torcher my self lolz.
That still must take a long time to treat!

Can't work out how to get a link from the phone app. There isn't a photo on it, and heading is just rooster pullet :)
Its in long beach.
I will just Have a search for this pullet...or rooster...or what ever it is?.lol.
I have only had to treat them once in 6 years for lice and I worm them in their water so it doesn't take too long really.
wow, that's amazing , In about 1 year I have had to treat for 2 cases of lice and 1 outbreak of mites!
