Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I certainly can't keep them all :( I only have my average sized back yard with my pallet coop and little old coop. Can only have five chickens here but I'm hoping to find a place where maybe I can rent a bit of land for some breeding pens.
I think this one came from a b team egg but I'm not 100% sure. She's one of the biggest.

My quails sure are going through the whole pallet of egg colours. The really dark one from this morning is darker than any marans egg I have ever seen.
Looks great Satay, find out who laid that one and you could breed Quails know for their dark eggs.lol.
Satay, great looking eggs

And ash, check out this beauty! I couldn't get great picks but her wings are beautiful! And her tail is real long.

They're all so beautiful I dunno if I can part with them.

Lovely chicks Pinky. Hope you can keep them all....some how.lol. Or find a nice home for them all.

Thanks guys, grats really go to ash though, they're his babies :) I will probably only be able to keep one but my neighbor wants a couple so I'll be able to see them :)

They're hiding in the corner while I change the flooring :)

I do hope they are not Ash's babies, other wise who knows what is going on?lol.
They are so cool.
Try getting them used to people, that can be a real tick these days as more people are buying chickens as pets and want a real friendly chicken.

In keeping with the chickens-cause-drama themes of late: I got home today and my bantam sussex has had her head pecked bloody, most likely the culprit is the (decidedly non bantam) barred rock, who does peck at her on a regular basis, though never very seriously before. Normally the sussex will squeak, sidestep and carry on. They have an odd relationship as they are close friends and the sussex presents to the barred rock as though the BR were a roo. The BR presents to us and doesn't seem to be a roo, though she is huge and butch and awkward and is yet to lay eggs.

Not sure why today she has pecked poor Sybil bloody.

The girls range in the garden all day so it is not about being cramped or stressed, and they have been together for the last 7 months without any issues. Though it is pure speculation I found several drops of blood in the nesting area and it may have occurred during laying, perhaps Sybil was laying and couldn't move away? Or POSSIBLY the BR finally laid an egg as we have two HUGE eggs that aren't readily identifiable to either of the usual girls, so maybe there was some laying stress and things got a bit aggro. I don't know.

So now, Sybil is no longer bleeding, has scabbed over, and is bright eyes and bushy tailed and happily hanging out with the BR again. Doesn't seem nervous at all. There is only the usual pecking going on, nothing especially aggressive.

Is it worth washing her head off and putting on some ointment ? Do you think I need to separate them? And can we buy "blu kote" in Australia?

Thanks Ash. I am like an over excited mother hen today as I have pip in one of the wellie eggs in the bator. Put 8 eggs in threw one at lock down so 7 left. Fingers crossed for me for a good hatch.

Yay. "Fingers x" but you won't need it

I have a load of Barred rocks and Araucana crosses due on 24/6.

Nothing but rain here - 123 mils so far and only half way through the month.

Wow that's a lot. But we had flooding two weeks ago. In less than hour it was knee deep. So I feel for you. The girls had a water front property for two days
