Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

You should be able to get bird grit from the local shops. It's easier to do that then go down to the beach and grab some sand. But have you ever collected cuttlefish to give to your chooks? It's high in calcium so its good for eggs. But you don't really need to if you are going to buy grit already.

So, I dunno if any of you have seen but there's a man on the Araucana fb page that has a theory that certain foods like liver can improve blue egg color. I only have one hen who isn't laying yet but giving it a bit of a go anyway.

I've made her liver meatballs with lots of silverbeet, garlic, some tomato and chilli. Looked delicious but I can tell you, it was not... lol chooks liked it though :) oh, and dried blueberries for snacks :) but I think they'r supposed to help dark egg color.

But you have yet to see if it will work!

I put a scoop of livamol in their feed bin. It is a powder with all their nutrient requirements.
We give it to the chesnut and bay horses to get nice dark shiny coats. I think that it is also improving my chooks feathers. You can give it to cows and goats aswell. There is of corse no liver in it , but I think you will get similar results. It contains 20% crude protein and omega -3. It is well worth a try.

My baby chicks are about 8 weeks now, I let them out in the run and both flew out. Are they old enough to have their flight feathers, if so can I cut them now.
