My little surrogate silkie just went back to her rooster when shed had enough of the kids. Let momma out and the little ones will relax. They are just sorting out their pecking order. Give them half a water melon or a honey dew, some corn , just something that will take a while to devour. Often they get so preoccupied with getting more than their fair share that they don't have time to squabble .
If you think momma is getting too big for her boots , remove her for a while.
I sometimes think that we humans could learn a lot from chooks. Imagine how much simpler our lives would be if we just kicked our kids out of the nest when we'd had enough of them.
Christmas! Bah humbug- it means I lost a whole day of chook house building!
