Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks Satay, thanks Sam. I'm not sure about fire weed, I'll look it up. We had some mulch delivered the day before and found wisteria and heaps of acacia so she might have picked something up from in there. They should not have gotten out in any case. Panda is fine though he is missing his mate. Obi wan and lilly are still too little to go in with him i think.
Does anyone on here use alpacas for Fox guards? I've lost heaps of birds lately so no one has been going out and they are eating their weight in gold atm.
Thanks fancy for the bathing tips, I'll get my daughter to take some humiliating photos of them while I'm washing them!

Maremma's are also fantastic flock guardians, we used them for goats for many years, and had nil losses to foxes. Alpacas are effective as well, but not sure as they are a little large for poultry guardians.

Your eggs are great, Chook. You are certainly breeding up the olive eggers. Sorry for your losses. :hugs

I live in Victoria. I have only just found this thread!
I am a belguim bantam fan and wondering if any of you know if the belguim watermaal exits in Australia?
or if any of you breed the d'anvers
cheers,

Hi I love belgiums too. As far as I know there are only D'anvers and D'uccles in Australia. I have never seen the others for sale anywhere.

what about pyncheon(I think that's spelt right)
I think you can get some sort of watermaal out of crossing a pyncheon and d'anver.
pyncheon is rare as well.
cheers

Oooooh a donkey would be awesome. Thanks kspot :) I am slightly obsessed. Choosing eggs that look the same with no imperfections is impossible! I'm glad today is the last day I will be inspecting them like I have ocd, I was getting really nervous a few weeks back that I'd have nothing to show but the girls are finally getting back into the swing of things. I've been getting some amazing shades from the pullet pen. Two of the dark olive egger girls eggs are significantly darker than their mummy's eggs :)

Donkeys are great flock guardians Jennie's better than johns. Jacks can be unpredictable and dangerous. I've had donkeys for over 15 years I love them they are the most beautiful and affectionate creatures:-D Im down to just one now and he is blind so doesn't do much guarding however when I had my Jennie's I didn't see a fox around for years. One thing to take note is that they are known dog killers. I had one donkey that would have killed my dogs if they had gone into the paddock without me. This donkey was given to me when my dogs were already adults. My other donkeys had known my dogs as pups so it was never an issue:) anyhow:D your eggs are just devine what beautiful colours. Pardon my ignorance but what chicken breed payed the olive ones. I would love to get one, or two or three:D:D
