Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

We've got two Speckled Sussexes, a brother-sister combo, all that hatched out of six eggs. They're now about 25 weeks old, and so far I think they've been really boring compared to our other birds. They seemed to suffer of a light case of cocci through the middle of the summer, something the rest of the flock never had any problems with. Especially the roo kept making very loose deposits. They are a lot less adventurous than our other birds too, and they've mostly kept to themselves up until now. Now, a few weeks ago, the rooster finally started crowing, and practicing mating (mostly his sister, and also an OE pullet we've got). They've also started to gain a bit of weight, and I have to admit, I'm starting to see them in a whole new light. This is how they looked a few weeks back, I'm starting to think they're actually pretty handsome birds. And this is from today, after they've been allowed to enjoy the salad patch for a few days. Not much left.
I love your sussex felix. One of my first hens i got when we movced out here was a speckled sussex. I never did find a rooster for her so no offspring unfortuantely. She was a great broody.

In other news i have bush babies. 9 of them. I busted mumma bantie a week ago down the back in long grass. I will post a pic later.

I thought they should have bright in birds we already have to increase the gene diversity, not NEW breeds that are also rare in the UK. Now they are just going to become terribly inbred.
But I have told that the chickens brought in are not what could be best for the ones already here, they are chosen based on who wants to FUND them. So clearly the only people who wanted ton fund this venture where breeders of these breeds.

This is only a small syndicate and a much bigger one is in the making (I hope/ have been told) and they are thinking of increase in the gene pool more.

I was hoping you were going to mention phoenix Luke. There is a syndicate in Tasmania that are bringing in a few breeds & phoenix are on their list. They are supposedly already in Oz, but so few that those who have them are keeping pretty quiet. Beautiful birds & reasonably productive. When I have space to have roosters... I can always dream.

These birds were bred from the birds left over/bought out from the uk breeding stock from the arpis1 failed import. Avgen the new company took the facility over and have new imports on the go and many more beautiful breeds will be hopefully coming here as well as ones to boost or gene pool :) Luke my cream legbar roo is not the best. He did hatch from lovely blue eggs and his sisters were nice but unfortunately the fox thought the same thing about that. This guy is missing a crest and could have better colour (sorry the photos aren't the best) but I'm after his auto sexing and blue egg genes.

I had no idea cream legbar were hear either Luke and wondered what colour the eggs would be anf if they would hatch true to type but they were pretty good. They wouldn't give me any information about their breeding. I'll have to look up the breeder I bought them from, I wouldn't mind a few more dozen myself :)

Out of two eggs that hatched; looks like I have two Frizzles

This little one is obvious.....

This one I will wait a bit longer before definitely saying Frizzle. I was hoping for your thoughts on what colour this little one might be ... probably need to leave it a bit longer but I can't describe the colour except a sort of silvery blue!!

The little sweetheart knew I was trying to catch a good picture of it's wing so was very obliging! lol
