Lol! I was like.. huh..?

Well ive ordered my mister and chicken crossing sign :) hopefully the mister comes soon as its getting hot quick now.

Now Miss Vonte is detaching herself from the chicks (in the morning at least) i was going to take this opportunity to seperate the cocks. Im not doing it this weekend though because of the heat. 1 i dont want to cause them any extra stress in the heat and 2 the area ill be putting them in doesnt have anywhere near as much shade as the rest of the property so im sure itll heat up quickly in there. So ill wait til its cooler and add some kind of extra shade over the area when it does heat up again.

Ive been flooding some of the shaded areas with water to try and help them out as well but it just dries so quickly :-( will be a tough weekend for them

Most definitely ! It's not recommended that children under 5 handle poultry. Hygiene / hand washing , is imperative. Also you should have shoes that are specifically for use in the coops and pens. They should never enter your living area , poop is not the only thing you have to protect yourself against as a poultry owner.

Good morning Friends

Or should I say afternoon? It is a bit late in the morning for me. I was up at 04:40am answering the ‘where is our breakfast’ call and afterwards thought, nope, I am tired, going back to bed … woke up again at 8am!!! Must have needed a full recharge and not just a quick zap

Aaaaw RodneyRooster poor Miss Vonte.

I have my mister set up to run down both sides of the run [on the outside]. Because it is a fine mist it blows around and keeps the surrounding area cool; I did not want it actually directed onto the deep litter run or able to get the coop wet.

I also use the hand held ‘mist’ setting on my hose to mist the vegetation in their favourite spot in the garden which is not only good for the plants to keep cool but keeps the gals cool also.

Anniebee working in IT, nothing that happens on computers surprises me anymore

Just a word of warning if I may,. the wormer I use [Kilverm] is ‘Contraindicated in extremely hot weather’ which is why I picked the forecast 'cooler' days I did for worming.

Anyways, cos I had a wonderful sleep in .. gotta get busy and get the lawns mowed [again!]. Predicted 27C and overcast today, much better than the 32C predicted 2 weeks ago when I last mowed.

Have a great day folks!

Thanks Teila ... .must admit to being a bit dubious about hot weather worming, but thought as they have dealt with the heat so very well - no panting etc., the stuff I use might be best given when they would be more thirsty. That way it would certainly get into their systems well and truly. But ......... your warning is much appreciated, and I will think more about it. There is no warning on the mixture I use, but that doesn't mean much.

As for technology. I get soooo mad at times, with things beeping around the house, and computer occasionally chucking a hissy fit.
But - that's the way it is these days. Oh for the good ole days.

It is very muggy today, and I am out to give my girls some chopped up cold greens and watermelon.

Have a lovely weekend, and hope the weather is kinder to you all in Queensland especially ( AND South Australia for gosh sakes ) W.A. too ... than it has been recently. We have some higher temps coming up

....

Take care,
Cheers .......

Educate me pls. I looked at the girl and thought Wellsummer. But I've only ever hatched a couple and kept them - one of those occasions where I didn't get enough girls and I'd promised someone a birthday present. I don't keep boys. But I have had Wheatons and I am hatching a couple of other marans ATM (if they aren't all too old - not looking good) That's a long way of saying I'm not that familiar with them all.

What traits are you seeing.

there are actually two girls, the top three photos are both girls, and the bottom photo is the boy, the boy and one girl are the ones that Satay says are welsummers, and the top girl looks very much like a photo I found on the internet of a blacktailed buff marans hen. The two dark red ones have yellow legs, and the top hen has white legs. I was still hoping that they are all marans, but I know marans don't have yellow legs, wishful thinking. I can give the rooster away if he's a marans, but I don't think they want him if he isn't. He's already becoming a problem, becoming aggressive with the two girls that don't look like him, I have a young Wyandotte with them as well.

Candled broody pearl's eggs they are developing nicely two will probably hatch way before the others don't what to do now. Don't think she'll still sit on them

Welsummers have yellow legs and marans don't. The look of the girl is more plain coloured which to me leans more to the marans side where as the other one has more welsummer colouring.i have had both over the years so it is just my educated guess. I would suggest googling pictures of both and you should see where i am going with it.
