Morning All. Ive just got her out of bed ;-) I think they all thought I was mad but they eventually came out lol

It's feeling hard again but I'm pretty sure she hasn't eaten anything. I put some pellets that had been softened with hot water and a little scrambled eggs cooked in too much oil then sprinkled some of the poly aid plus through it. She had a little peck at it but wasn't really eating it.

How often during the day should I be massaging it?

She always does seem to have a bit of a full crop, ever since that last episode so I think you are right fancy, this could be the new normal for her. Just got to move it enough she can eat again.

Morning, what's her general condition like ? Keeping her hydrated is the tricky bit. I would attempt to massage 2-3 times a day . If she is still drinking add some poly aid to it . If she refuses to take any try her on some Gatorade or hydralite satchels.

I agree, massage at least 3 times, even more if you can and when my girl had it I massage softly with a closed fist so my knuckles acted like different pressure points to break it up. Took a few days but it worked. Also i crushed up some tinned sardines with oil and they got gobbled up quickly, all the oil helped to move the blockage

Yep, it's always the ones that are a bit special to you end up being the most work it seems :)

Appps, I really wish your girl a speedy recovery, she sounds like such a special chicken :)

Well, I held off posting since I didn't know how things would pan out, and I have good news. First, Agnes is fully recovered, she's happily back with her friends again, carrying on like no time had passed. That was Monday. On Tuesday we had our hottest day here in Brissy, and Annabelle ( the chicken in my avatar) succumbed to the heat a little, enough to weaken her and let a VERY nasty respiratory infection take hold. Symptoms are different to Aggies, I found her under the bottlebrush tree with mucous coming out of her mouth. Brought her upstairs and rushed her to the vet, who conveniently is across the road, where she got a shot of anti-biotic and anti-inflammatory. I believe these saved her life, the anti-biotic particularly. She'd been fine the previous day, and that morning. I'd actually gone downstairs to dunk them all in cool water. Listening to her breathing that night was heartbreakingly horrendous, the gurgling. She'd had a temperature as well as her lungs sounding rattly. Fortunately she made it through the night, and was surprisingly itching to go outside. She's confined in the front yard, good shade under the deck there.

She went back to the vet first thing yesterday, and got the same shots again, plus something to help dry the mucous. Her temp was normal, and her lungs sounded clearer, which was a huge relief. She starts oral anti-biotics today. She was walking on the floor whilst the vet and I were seated and discussing her treatment, when all of a sudden I got a face full of wings as she decided to jump on my lap. It was adorably silly. So, she still sounds a little rough, but is improving. She laid two eggs overnight! I saw her eating something, it was the innards of a very soft shelled egg which I promptly confiscated, and then another regular looking egg, though the shell was discoloured. I wish she hadn't though, I want her strength to go to getting better.

Well, never a dull moment with my girls. I've got two coops, one for little bantam chickens, and one for the big chickens. I've put my young sussex, Iris, in the big chicken coop with Ada (Annabelle's bff) as she's outgrown the little chicken coop. Plus she picks on Beatrice, the youngest, who I now want to bond with the other chickens more, as she's a little over attached to me. Bea's not been easy to put to bed in the little coop the past two days, a LOT of complaining. It's been tough, but I know in time she'll bond with Agnes and Esme.

So that was long, but that's what's been driving me crazy lately lol. Everyone will be fine in time, but it's been overwhelming, probably will be for another week or so. Just when you think everything's fine...

So glad annabelle seems to be recovering. Your lucky to have a good vet so close by.

Has your vet explained to you the necessity to have a ' closed flock ' with what sounds like mycoplasma ? The symptoms vary from bird to bird in their severity but is most often brought on by stress, but your birds will be carriers now. :(

Fancychooklady, I'm not sure if it's mycoplasma, or what exactly, then again we didn't send off anything to be analysed. Checking the symptoms of myco, she had no ocular discharge, she was eating fine, no leg problems, no coughing, just sneezing. Symptoms hit suddenly, but yes it could have been incubating for a while. I'm legally at my limit for fowl for my property size anyway, and these six are more than enough work for me, particularly at the moment. Annabelle had another check up today, improving even more which is great. She's just a little sad at being isolated and away from her best friend Ada. She tried really hard to get to her, snuck under the house, but it was blocked off. I put up extra barriers.

Lol, must add though, my d'uccle Beatrice just chased off her first pigeon. Iris picked it up seeing me clap/run/yell at them, and now Bea's picked it up. Smart chickies :D My cat meanwhile is sleeping the day away. The chooks do far more work than her.

Yep, summer can bugger off for all I care right now, an early autumn would be great. The humidity from the storms that missed us is still quite revolting.

On the positive side of things, my girls Iris and Esmè are now four months, and maturing nicely. Eyes have changed colour, combs are starting to grow, and Iris has gotten in such pretty iridescent tail feathers, as well as more black feathers on her body, which help break up the white on her chest, adding to the speckled effect. They still have their baby voices, Esmè especially still cheeps, but that's ok, it's very cute. Her beaks gotten yellower, feet too. Aggies last day of meds today! She can go back to her friends on Wednesday.

Two very pretty chickens Fizzybelle .... good to hear they are doing well. Glad to know that Agnes is much better too .........
