Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Went out to the coop this morning and this little 6-7 week old silkie is looking like a def boy. Are silkie roos really loud? I am only asking as this one is my youngest boys favourite and he has got very attached to him ... could almost say they are best friends and he would be so upset if we have to get rid of him

Would have to agree , those are some fairly advanced wattles. :( Some of my Silkie boys didn't start crowing until they were several months old, but that really depends on their environment . While they aren't as loud as the bigger breeds, they can be a little ' screechy ' . :)

He's a cute little fella, I hope you can find a way to let him stay. Wait and see how loud he gets though, then decide what to do.

Someone's singing an egg song in my yard atm, the girls have become more boastful since the move for some reason.

Telia, it looks like I'll also be doing some new coop construction work this weekend too. Plans have been drawn, it's time to get building.

Might be joining the building craze too but it's going to be a combined avairy and bunny house for us. Our little pigeons dad has decided it's time he got his own place lol

And here is poor Carl this morning

As you can see, everything seems to still be going straight through her. And she has already drunk 500ml of water so far today.

Could the d'uccle owners (aka the enablers LOL) look at my imaginary chooks and tell me how much bigger Flora will get? I forgot to ask to look at an adult at the chook farm, and I really have little idea of their eventual size in real life. She's really tiny, she's like the size of a corella, not a chook. Also, with her patterning, will she stay how she is, or will she get more "spots" when she's grown up?

Also, does anybody know what colour Jeannie the pekin in the back is? I posted in the Pekin thread but haven't had any responses. I've looked online, but the colours seem to be one colour, whereas she's got 2 colours - head/neck and then the rest of her. Her colours aren't shown very well, her head has lovely golden colour all through and her feet are yellow. (her feathers are so SOFT, is that a pekin thing? are they all lovely and soft? She's like touching cashmere)

EDIT poor carl, can she be given anything to "bind her up" or do you just have to wait for her system to sort itself out?

(I've got my new bunny houses set up now, I'd like to see your new bunny house/aviary as well if you want to post)

@potatochip. I'm not sure, I'm not game to give her more fibre in the way of grass till I know the crop is working. At the he moment she is getting pellets (probably eating one hand full of it per day) with some sort of treat to get her started in the morning. Today it was 1 strawberry, plus she just got some cooked egg white I had left over from a recipe)

Not 100% sure what to do with the aviary. Just know I want to be able to stand up in it and mozzie proof it. I like the idea of an airlock too.

Poor Carl, excessive thirst is one of the early symptoms of impaction, perhaps it's time for a check up with the vet. I'd try her on a little buttermilk , it may help put a lining on her tummy. Yukult would probably be better, as it will help with the gut and provide her with her probiotics.
