Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi Annie. It might be worth you getting in some Anitone also. It's much easier to dose than juggling with pills and tablets.
My thoughts would be visceral gout, but there are many contributing factors to lameness.
Osteomyelitis can present with or without external lesions.
For pain relief you can administer baby aspirin but I prefer arnica pillules.
Mycoplasma , mareks and infectious laryngitis can all result in lameness, but of course lameness is only one of many symptoms with these diseases.
I reserve yoghurt for only a week after antibiotic treatment and then just a once in awhile treat.
Dairy products are not recommended on a regular basis because excessive calcium is stored in the organs and can be as detrimental to a birds health as a calcium deficiency.
A few sprinkles of Epsom salts on the feed may also be beneficial as a flush.
I hope that your avian vet can get to the bottom of this.

Sincerely hope visceral gout is not a factor. ... she eats and drinks so well - lays a couple of times a week. Squats like there is no tomorrow !!!

... and honestly, except for the sitting down, and the occasional slowness in walking - ( whereupon she sits down -and erects her tail - she does NOT limp ). I think if she'd had maraks, she'd be a) dead by now, and b) the others would have caught it. She has no laringytis - 'growls' like she always has. That, plus the occasional shriek ( similar to Mindy ) ... are the only noises she makes - and continues to do so.

Yoghurt is now stopped. My instinct is arthritis - not of the viral kind though. But who knows. After avian visit, will ( with his/her advice ) consider baby aspirin. Will be fascinating to know what the Vet thinks of all this weirdness. Will advise here, what the Vet thinks, when I get the appointment organised.

Epsom salts ? .... how much and how often ? Just to keep as advice.

None of my 3 girls get exceesive calcium ... I am very careful about that ( thanks to sjturner79 too about that ). They should get ( and I believe do ) ... enough in their layer pellets. The amount the 3 of them eat of their pellets, is quite extraordinary. Gutses - all of them.

Thanks - and cheers .......

Thank you to everyone for advice about fish oil, ACV, and yoghurt - - - dosages, and other info.

Will ask the avian vet, if fish oil is ok. .... perhaps just a couple of drops on each of the individual 'goodie' plates I offer now. Mandy eats absolutely ALL of her goodies ( most often sitting down to do so ) ... without Molly interfering ... as I now separate all 3 with little bowls of goodies for each.

Avian Vet ( haven't arranged visit yet ) ... office did advise that the tablets they give for worming are ....... Avitrol Plus. ... Off label, but if it's good enough for them to administer, then I figure it is good enough for the girls. Easier to give tablets, than have them turn their beaks up at the pink levamasole liquid in water - eh ? And several here have mentioned Avitrol Plus before .... so even though not specifically certified for chickens - apparently is ok.

So ... now the girls are getting proper ACV in their water 6 out of 7 days per week. Have backed right off the yoghurt now. Miss Ruby dog can have what remains of that.

And am biding my time just a tad, before booking Mandy into the avian vet ... as she has perked up considerably, I am pleased to say - although I wouldn't bet on anything when it comes to chookies. Will let you all know what happens when I do take her there. Very reasonable consultancy only price - $74 ... including weekends.

I have ordered Avitone on line too .......

.... another introduction to on-line purchasing. ( have only ever done it once or twice before ). More stuff in a post to Fancy about my chookie conundrum.

( apologies for being so insistent on this subject - but it is somewhat of a mystery ) ...

Cheers .....

Best of good luck with all that ....... do you have a spare room ? .... maybe it could be a clucky creche for a while.   Eh ?

Cheers ..

I have a couple of pet carriers but they won't give much air circulation which won't help. I still have the leghorn in the brooder.

Sad thing is I have to hatch some eggs. But because they're not for me or addition to my closed flock they have to be hatched in an incubator.

Good morning folks

Blondie is full on broody and that picture was taken after booting her out of the nest box while she was shrieking like a banshee and trying to remove fingers.

I had to tip the plank to slide her off this morning and while she did wander down for a drink and something to eat, she promptly went back up the ramp and tried to sit on Crystal who was trying to lay an egg … the ‘Occupied’ sign is once again active on broody jail
