Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi Wooklet

Thanks - the one you refer to as the blue is called ROO, We swore she was a he till She laid an egg !

Little white daintes that have yolks bigger than the whites ! I know her mum is Austrolorp and her dad was AustrolorpxWynandotte

I let them all out for atleast an hour every afternoon and all day sunday. They play with the dog and love to eat the dog food and any left overs they can beat the dog too.

Its funny he has never chastised them over food.

So with spring here.... Who is hatching what right now?? Satay- what happened about your goose eggs? I hope its not all bad news.

Hey Ducky, yes it was all bad news the geese eggs. None hatched. I have since replaced them in the bator with Australorp and Brahma eggs. Also got a broody sitting on some Aussie and brahma eggs too.

I wont be having goslings this year either satay... I think I need a year off- They are great for keeping the grass down over summer- but I dont mind mowing. I am getting paranoid about the new neighbours that havent moved in yet and am making sure the numbers dont get out of hand this year.

Thank guys that's alright about the geese eggs. I get a bit dissapointed when I am hatching things for other people and nothing hatches but the owner of the eggs was just pleased i tried for them so it's all good.Think i forgot to mention too that I borrowed an electric fence from some friends and set it up along the fence where the dog was getting in. Nothing was happenening and the dog was still getting in. Finally a few days ago it pushed it's luck and got hit by it. I haven't seen the dog since. Does anyone one from the thread know how long i will need to leave the fence up now before it would be likely the thing would stay away for good?

We are lucky that our dog doesn't only not bother the hens, but goes out to defend them if there is an alarm cry (even from the wild birds). She has chased off other dogs (when we lived in town) and now an eagle, a fox and several goannas now we are on the farm. She is super protective of them.

I only have 3 at the moment (all Rhode Island Reds) and get 1-2 eggs a day.

One of them seemed to be going a bit clucky there for a while and was laying in a hiding place but she would only sit through the day and then abandon them at night to go back in the coop with the others at night. She also didn't seem upset that I knew where she was and it seems she got bored with the plan because she gave up on it. If she had been serious about it I would have either got her some fertilised eggs or some day old chicks as we don't have a rooster.

Hi Satay, most dogs are pretty smart and wont go near something that hurts them. Leave it up for a few more weeks and see if he gets it again. maybe have your video camera handy so you can video it. HEHEHEHEHEHEHE. Thats a bit naughty. Could turn into a bit of beer drinking entertainment.
